Default DP starting to rust!

My downpipe is starting to rust and I was wondering if there is something I can do about it. Can I sand the rust off and spray something on it?? Is there anything that wouldnt burn right off? I usually wouldnt care, but it just really sticks out in the engine bay.

Just sand it off and paint it with some high temp paint.

a coating would probably be best, but when the guy at the muffler shop was installing my downpipe he welded it straight to the exhaust, so I basically I would have to get the whole exhaust done and I think that would be very expensive.....What kind of high temp paint will hold?? I've tried a few kinds on my mani and none of them stayed on very long.

I used 1500 degree VHT and it's held up fine, 1200 degree starts to bubble/crack off.

Uhm, I think it's "Duragon" that's rated for 1800+ deg F. Expect to pay an arm and a leg.

VHT is the company...you can get it at most speed shops. Their 1500 deg "flame proof" will hold up fine. It works best if you can heat the metal a bit before painting. If not an option, then just make sure you sand and clean the metal with brake cleaner or other strong solvent (not carb cleaner, it leaves a residue)
