does it really matter?

does it really matter?
ive been torn between a b16a2 and b18b1 for quite some time now. i had a thought today while doodling in class: does it really matter which engine i get? if im going to boost it and make 200 or more WHP and respectable torque, then both engines can do it. they can even do it on stock internals cant they? so does it really matter which engine? would cost be the only determining factor behind the decision? or is there something extra special about a b16 over 200 WHP that the b18b cant do? i know the b18b will produce more torque but that will be wasted on launching with major wheelspin wont it? i cant decide......

b18, longer stroke, more potential, lower compression, ready for boost. Trying to go fast with a B16 is like trying to break loose a rusty CV Joint bolt with a 1/4 drive ratchet. It's more trouble than its worth.

Re: (18gTeg)
take everything you've heard into consideration and make the decsion yourself. trying to pick through other peoples opinions is just gunna make yoru head spin.
look at dyno charts and track times and figues out what exactly you want.

thats pretty funny since there are countless people on H-T with crazy fast B16's Sure B18's are more capable from the start but saying that B16's have no potential is stupid.

You have to decide:
how much power do you want to make?
How much money do you have?
How much are you going to pay for the LS block vs the b16?
How about an LS block with VTEC head + turbo
Stock internals are fine for 230- 250whp IF TUNED CORRECTLY. Any more I'd get my block built.

The b18 is more powerful to begin with so it will take more work (and money) to make the b16 as fast.
BTW don't worry about TOO MUCH torque from a 1.8l, 4 cylinder engine.

I think u r right. it doesn't really matter which one u go with for 200ish whp.
id say if one day u r planning to build a bottem end, go w/ the B16 so u already got the vtec head and short geared tranny. then later build a 1.8L bottem end and u r done. Otherwise, LS is nice for torque around town and simplicity. It can go fast too. (see sig)

i dont plan on going crazy nuts fast. its my daily driver. i would love it to have 200-250 WHP. that would give me nice 1/4 times even though i may take it to the track only a couple times. basically, i want something fast but not stoopid fast. just enough so if some lame *** stalks me on the streets all night revving at me every chance he can, i can smoke him. low 13s or maybe high 12s would be cool.
cost wise, isnt everything for a b18b1 cheaper than b16 parts? if i mess up a block, it would be cheaper to replace wont it?

no one ever "plans" to go crazy fast. it just happens.
before you know it you're pushing 400+ hp and 20+ PSI of boost to goto the 7-11.

If you getting a whole swap and not just the blocks, you will need to consider the tranny you will be getting as well. Although the two motors may be a tough decision I would definately rather have the b16 tranny.
