Does a lightened flywheel make power?
Here's a before/after dyno run - judge for yourself
Blue (#27) - stock flywheel
Red (#28) - ACT lightened OEM flywheel

Re: Does a lightened flywheel make power? (VaporTrail)
also if you notice the gains are pretty even throughout the rev band. pretty
It frees up power because more of the TQ actually gets to the wheels instead of being spent to spin it.
I also assume that the car revs faster with the increase in WTQ, and the lessened rotational inertia of the flywheel.
all this from 12lb lbs eh. i wonder what the 8lbs guys are making.
Did you get the weight for the stock flywheel by any chance?

How the heck do you get 213 hp @ 7 psi out of a sohc motor? That can't be normal...

If I'm not mistaken, the stock flywheel weighs approximately 19lbs. The car did rev up noticably faster, especially rolling into 2nd gear, where traction is not as much an issue.

213 hp @ 7 psi on a sohc. Boy that sure is a kick in the nuts to almost all the turbo prelude owners out there.

I didn't realize anyone questioned the fact that less rotational mass at the flywheel improved power to the wheels
What I question is whether or not the rpm stays in region of the band where you have boost when you shift, or if it drops you out of boost?

Re: Does a lightened flywheel make power? (Ubermensch)
You mean cause the wheel has little inertia that it slows downs quicker than stock?
From the videos i've seen it appears they shift fast enough (and you notice the needle fall fast) but still in a good area. Also, if you were boosted wont you have more room for it to fall since full boost is made in the mid range, not just up top? Not saying you want to fall that far, but you wont have to worry about "falling out of vtec, or secondaries"

(Rise from the dead.. )
I am curious to what the power output would be if say a Clutchmaster flywheel was used.
I am looking for a new flywheel/clutch setup for my turbo app.

Well, since Nathan brought this thread back from the dead.....
John, I meant to call you yesterday.... at what rpm that SOHC was able to reach full boost ? So far I was looking for a t3 .45/.63 but now Im wondering about a t3/t4 turbo like this ? Im gonna be pushing upwards to 20psi but im more concerned about the lag. CALL me now on the hotline.
