Do I need an intercooler with this setup?
The setup is as follows:
Garret T3 @ 7psi internal wastegate (oil/water cooled)
HF manifold
open downpipe to under side of car (until I get one made)
Volvo adjustable BOV
either 10:1 or 12:1 Vortec FMU or DSM injectors w/ s/v afc
Oil cooler
Charge piping going directly to the throttle body
I will not be going full boost that much and I will mostly be freeway driving (commuting) with this mainly. Do you think having no intercooler would effect reliability without that much hard driving and will it increase temps too much without one either? Any suggestions welcome.
As of now, I am about 70% finished with my turbo setup. I have turbo mounted, temporary downpipe, no intercooler charge piping going directly to the intake, and I am getting some oil and coolant lines as we speak. All I need now is an FMU or AFC hack setup and I am good to go (but maybe inline or intank pump needed also).
