what do you guys think of running a turbo without an intercooler for a start out setup on a gsr ek hatch

any thoughts on how much i could do to the setup before requiring an intercooler

and wether i should just start out with an intercooler to save myself from the hassle of having to change the piping

You can run without an intercooler, but I would suggest planning on getting one down the road. Just run low boost for the time being

If you go with the greddy kit the intercooler is optional. It comes with the piping without the intercooler and you can opt for the intercooler later. Kinda pricey though

Really depends on how much you want to put down and how much you want to boost.

More then 7psi get an intercooler

Anything under your fine.

I wouldn't run a turbocharger without an intercooler. I did it for like a week while my IC got shipped out and it sucked.

i'm not looking at getting a kit

i want to do a custom setup and since i had to cut out my bumper grill for other reasons

it'd be sort of hard to conceal an intercooler so i'm thinking of wether or not
to put one on at first

i guess we'll see when the time comes

why do you want to conceal it????? if you want the sleeper look then you can always get a side mount

I have a front mount and still have all of my bumper grille in. It's not that noticeable.

If you want high hp and high boost get an intercooler. Plus I recommend using an intercooler for most turbocharger applications to protect your engine from detination.

i have 97 hatch with the one big grill hole on the bumper

i had to cut it out because it was gouged up pretty bad, maybe i should've left it

but if i still had it i would be worried less about concealment, cause it would be sort of concealed

i guess now if i wanted to i could try and put a black painted mesh grill in to try and conceal

i remember seeing pictures of one hatch on jdmc, i can't remember the user, but he had the 99-00 bumper, and his intercooler was all hidden but part of the end pipes, it looked really nice

if i got a small decent intercooler would that minimize the amount of lag caused by the intercooler that i've heard about

Yep. You can paint an intercooler. I still have my doubts about it retaining it's original heat dissipation covered in paint, but I've yet to see any tests one way or the other.

what kind of paint would you recommend

i guess most likely i'll try to cover the grill with a painted mesh
and if the intercooler still stood out i'd think about painting it

but it's going to be a little bit before that time comes, just getting ready

get a side mount off a 1.8T Golf or Jetta and that way you can hide it good. I got mine off ebay for $80 USD but never used it cuz I ended up buying a FMIC anyways.

ive got the sidemount off of a 92 gsx, its fits beautifuly right in the pass. side lower bumper. it took all of 5 minutes to securly mount it. but im sure a supra, vw, or dsm sidemount will do, and their super cheap, no reason not to get one when you can get one for like 40 bucks or so.
