Default do i need a electronic boost controller?

im building a turbo gsr just now with the usual piston/rod/headstuds...

my question is im going to be running a tial 38mm wastegate with 10psi spring to get running and street tuned. i hopefully want to run 15-20 psi in the future, i have been looking at AEM Tru Boost controllers and deciding if its worth spending $350-400 on , or should i just change the spring in the Wastegate?

is there any pro's and con's do using just the wastegate spring ?.

A lot of EMS have built in boost control which will ultimately be a lot cheaper.

But if you are going to do through the trouble of changing the spring wouldnt getting a MBC just be a lot more easier in the end?

They do look cheap. I have one that came on my car when I got it, but it seems to work fine. Just have to take care when adjusting boost level and go in small increments since there is no scale on them.

are you kidding? show me a mbc (alone without a trigger system) that can do gear/rpm based boost control and make it progressive at that

the s300 can do that and is an ems all in one hence my n.m. from the top.

if you are talking pros and cons over mbc vs. spring, thats a no brainer.
get a spring for the least you want to run, then adjust up from that.
