:: diy intercooler piping ::
i am going to try to make my own intercooler piping from jcwhitney u-bends. anyways, i was wondering what you DIY-ers use to cut the piping. the best thing i have at home is a dremel which i know will not be good enough. but i was thinking of renting a circular saw from home depot. what do you think? would this work? any recommendations (size, speed, etc)? all your help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.
sawzall, or a grinder with a metal cut off disc. circular saw wont work too well, its hard to find a metal cutting blade that small. they are usually like 14 inches. also, some piping like SS is really hard, so u'll go thru some sawzall blades like nothing. grinder is like 10-20 bucks at harbor freight, and a pack of metal discs are like 5 bucks.

FYI: If you happen to be using AL piping, a sawzall is not a good choice. Anything like that will grab the tubing half way through and bend it out of round. It is a real b!tch. A fine tooth hacksaw by hand worked out to be the best in my case.
**now that I think of it, all that work though and now I want to fab CF charge pipes

I used a hacksaw a few days ago. It cuts but your arm will hurt, I say take it up to a shop they can cut them in a matter of seconds
. I made 5 cuts myself(took about an hr w/breaks) took pipes to jotech adn the cut last pipe in 5 seconds

A hacksaw is by far the most appropriate tool for a DIY piping job. If you have a sharp, fine tooth blade (as mentioned above) it will go quickly and easily. If it takes you an hour!! to make 5 cuts then the blade was in upside-down... I'm pretty sure I could make 5 cuts in under 5 minutes in steel 2.25" tubing, no 4 minutes.

sorry it's the heavy duty deep cut band saw...first one listed on the jigsaw page under the power tools menu.
That's what you need! You can rent one if you don't have the 300 bones to buy it.

i use a 10" chop saw with a metal cutting blade. cuts very fast and clean. I just got done last night doing me complete 3" exhaust with it........now time for charge pipes.
Take your measurements and mark everything and take it to your local exhaust shop, I will guarantee that they have a circular saw with a metal cutting blade.
14" metal bladed chop saw here, and a 4" grinder for the smaller cuts or the air powered die grinder w/ 3" blades. One tip that i found useful was not to bother w/ the 4" cut off wheels, get the 4" grinding discs, they are thicker and last way longer than the cut off wheel. Scored the chop saw for 50$ at harbor freight. good tool!
Rent/buy a nice circular saw and cut it that way. Or take more time and use a hack saw. But if your ic piping is hard metal, this might take a while.
