Default DIY charge pipes

Well as im sure you may have noticed that there has been allot of threads on here recently about making your own charge pipes. Haveing a machine shop at my disposal i plan on doing the same. I have come acros many diferent sites explaining all the things you will need to make these and make them right. Here is a link that i find very usefull and im sure if you are looking into making your own charge pipes you will find it usefull as well http://www.cse.uconn.edu/~yelevich/turbo/turbo.html this site can help you with charge pipes as well as other DIY stuff. They use JC whitney mandrel bent piping, these come in an assortment of sizes and bends. jcwhitney.com , check out there site for more info. With all the diferent sizes offered, you would be able to conjure up any type of charge pipe system and run allmost any intercooler you can get to fit, or none at all. allso if you have any pics of charge pipes that you made your self, feel free to post up pics for all the couriouse guys to see. Just thought i would put this out there and try to answer some questions for some of our "new to turbo members"....i am new to it as well but i think im getting a hang of it i hope that this at least helps answer some questions. feel free to respond or IM me with any questions.

thanks all

Rob

It definitely helped many members !

I did post alot of threads asking about charge pipes ! hehe..
but i knew that website, and I knew jcwhitney.com

But I am a bit different, coz I want to keep my charge pipe which goes into the throttle body
that pipe is from the greddy kit...
I got the driver's side figured out already, i just need a U bend pipe
but as for the Passenger's side, I am still not sure, I think that website asked for a U bend, but I think I need a 90 degree elbow for my pipe...

hopefully it will work

WHat do you plan to do at the ends of the pipes where the couplings are clamped on so they don't blow off?

I used thoes instructions when I did my own charge pipes. They didn't fit at all. I had to eyeball everything myself and come up with my own design. It wasn't hard, just need some u bends and a mig!

Didn't say it would be best for everyone. I have no warranty.

You dont have to weld them to the t/b....doesnt the honda guy ask what that snail looking thing is? What about that radiator looking thing? If you are going to void the warranty with a turbo kit, then go to the dealer to have them fix it later, just pull the whole thing off...

I thought he meant run a bead of weld around each end of the pipes to make a lip and keep the couplings from coming off.

Thats not my sight sorry Art....

Wow this is old, like months. I was going to go this way but recently a have been thinking against it. As for your question filetofit, i was planing on welding a bead around each of the pipes at the conection points. I was going to use the least couplers i could and weld everything up so it looked really nice, then give it a coat of semi gloss black, or wrinkled finish. But like i said im not sure if im going to do this now or not. That sight says to use 2.5 inch pipe, but i just want you guys to know that 2.5 IS NOT the best way to go. Art and i have discussed this and 2.25'' is the way to go. Volumetric efficiency coming into play. Turbo will waste trying to fill the extra space in the 2.5 inch pipeng. I have been told that 2.25 is good for making up to 500 whp. so keep that in mind. Allso legendboy, i never said that this was a surefire easy way to do it, just something that can help some folks out, allot of setups very, and yes as in any custom DIY project a little creativity is a must.
