Detonation with too much fuel?
My car is shooting a 23..knock sensor. the car is running way too rich with the timing retarded and its only on 5 pounds..its on a hondata stage 2b with fuel map for 756cc i have 880s..if i floor it it shoots the code 23. Only at high rpms..how can 2 much fuel cause detonation?

This one of those things that people think their safe from detonation by running an engine really rich. But your not this is just one of the reasons. What happens is you have so much fuel in the intake port, runner and entering the chamber that the fuel will start collecting on the walls and to itself in the cylinder. Fuel is alot like water it will tend to attract to itself. So you will end up with very dense areas of fuel and very lean areas of fuel. The lean ones will ignite before the the plug has fired and create the detonation.
Of course if your running pump gas it will detonate easier then if your running race fuel, but even VP C16 will detonate under a very rich condition.( Been there and done that)
