LEAN! Fuel Pulsation Dampner - Could It Be Causing My Problems?
Last season I couldnt tune or run my car worth a ****. Brand new motor at the end of the season and I never got a run out of it. No matter how much fuel I added in turboedit it would keep going lean in the upper rpms, like way lean.
The car is a 90 Crx Si, d16a6 forged internal motor, obd0, turboedit, gm 3 bar, dsm 450's, wideband 02 with digital readout.
I could add fuel and fuel and fuel while deep into boost (usually anything above 8psi I believe) and then it would start going lean, I maxed out the fuel maps, checked fuel pressure. Everything was fine.
I did a few nights of reading trying to find the problem, and came across a guy or two that apparently had the same prblem with never being able to get enough fuel. And 2 of them said that the removal of the fuel dampner on the end of the fuel rail could be the cause.
Im looking for a good answer or a good place to start so I can have a good solid season.
Thanks guys

Were you checking you fuel pressure at the rail or at the fuel filter? Try checking it at the rail and see where its at. I am one of the people that had that problem and it was a pain to figure out. My guage on my filter was reading 60psi and when I barrowed another guage and put it on the rail it was only showing 20psi (yikes!)Good luck.

just try it.</TD></TR></TABLE>
A reason would be nice... no real reason the resistor boxed setup should not work. If you are doing this so he checks his injectors... would be simpler to say "send them out for cleaning/flow testing.... or try a known good set". Its less work than undoing the resistor box ...

Stop bumping! How the hell do you expect to actually troubleshoot this issue... if you can't test anything with the car in storage?
Just wait til you get the car out.... you are wasting space with this post and the bumping until you can actually try and test things.
Once again, I'm reminded why I gave up in previous threads of yours. Why the hell don't I learn...
BAH.

Or because people could have the same problem? The car isnt "in storage", its in the driveway undriveable. I can still pull parts off of it and make changes. Id rather get as muhc done as possible now while I can
Thanks

i would like to know from those guys who have removed the pulsation dampener all together, if it affects driveability at all? does it cause the engine to surge or make it not so drivable? or would it not be noticeable at all if it was removed?
i don't understand how it could cause the engine to run lean but i do think it can cause unstable fuel pressures if the dampner is damaged?
but then again WTF do i know......

i've ran into the banjo fitting on the fuel line that goes to fuel rail being different. some of the lines have the same size openings on both sides of the banjo. some have one small and one large opening. the rails with dampners need the line with one small and one large opening. the large opening goes toward the dampner. hope this helps
