Default Detonation or misfire?

Every now and then my car sputters under boost, and loses power. I retarded the timing slightly(2deg) for boost conditions, and Im running around 8psi. Im using DSM 450cc injectors as well, so Im not lean by ANY means. I dont know if Im detonating, or misfiring. I have a new cap/rotor combination with Nology Plug wires. Ive heard these wires wear out after a few years? What is the distinguishing factor between detonation and misfire?

What plugs/plug gap are you running? I had a misfire cause my stock Gapping. .040" was wayyy too big. Pull it back to .030" and see if that helps, if it does some, but still happens, some people are using .025" plug gap.

Ive got the NGK Laser platinum ones, for a stock LS, and I have not messed with the gap at all. I will definately try decreasing the gap. One more Q...a higher heat range will burn more fuel correct??
