Default Detonating... help!

Okay, my setup is as follows: d16y7 with 50k miles, greddy 15g turbo, big intercooler, the timing is retarded, only running 7psi of boost, 93 octane gas, colder plugs (2 steps) gapped to 0.030, rc engineering 440cc injectors, walbro 255lph pump, safc-2 low throttle set to -40% across the board, and high throttle set to -35% across the board... oh and it's not hot here at all.

So it should be a problem of fuel, correct? I don't see how it's not getting enough fuel with what I'm running, it should be plenty of fuel. I messed with the high throttle settings today, tried all the way from -35% to -15%, -15% was waaay too much fuel, didnt even want to rev up. Black smoke everywhere even at -35%. The car acts like it's running rich, but I still hear detonation.

What else can I do? Suggestions anyone?

put the timing back to stock, stock timing should be good for just 7psi of boost...
How you know it denotation? was it ping pong on the engine or it just splutter???

You dont seem to understand that your ECU is seeing you pull all of that fuel and is advancing timing like crazy...Trim fuel at idle, to get the car to idle but keep the fuel trim to a minimum as boost comes on...

what is your static timing set to? I would look into getting a wideband, they are getting affordable and well worth the money.

I think you mean Base Timing, and that isn't as important as total timing...His total timing is too advanced due to the extreme fuel trim settings hes using...You need control over your ignition timing as well...Thats why Software that controls fuel and timing is so important...Look for an Apexi ITC or maybe try an MSD BTM...

Detonation...I'm not sure I can call it that because I've never owned a turbo car.. but It sounds like if you were to drop a bunch of BB's or safety pins on the floor, or scratch a safety pin up against metal really fast back and forth.

Yeah, I had a MSD 6BTM that I was going to use to help with ignition timing, but it turned out to be bad. I'll just get a BTM and see how that goes. Thanks guys.

did you jump the ECU when you set the base timing? The ecu will try to put the timing back if you didn't. You can run -35 with no problem on most cars. I ran -30 for a long time at 9psi with no problem, stock pump. 4 degrees pulled at distributer.

Uberdata is 100X beter. I will never do the hack again on any obd1 car!

Yea, I agree...put the timing back and see what happens. You shouldn't have to pull it for ~7psi. Then go visit the dyno

good luck.
