Default Thoughts on this motor (coolant pictures, spark plug holes) (56k beware)

I got this motor from Import Auto Salvage. Randy from IAS was very nice and they got a motor out to me quick. Let me know what you think. I'm going to compression test it and maybe leakdown test it Sunday. I have some other pictures of my new project at http://www.cardomain.com/id/alpha .

<Edit>
Went from an 84mm Golden Eagle Mfg. resleeved B16a to this. I had to sell the other project due to getting shafted over a surgery by the insurance company.

What the hell are you testing pH for? lol. Getting a fish tank?

The outside of the motor looks good. No oil leakage, but then again I'm sure they degrease the whole engine before shipping it out. BTW, how are IAS's prices?

I'm going to transfer the coolant to my imaginary pool I was looking at the coolant. The sun was starting to go down and I couldn't see in the thermostat. I will let you all decide on the price. $750.00 for the long block (no distributor, ECU, etc) and $150.00 for the shipping to a business address.

Price seems steep but looks to be a very clean and legit motor so that's worth the extra few bucks sometimes.

looks like a good clean motor. be sure to change out those crappy automagic cams for some manual ones or aftermarket.

That's on my list to do. Crower 62402 or Crower 62402T camshafts.

The price "might" be steep but I am not getting scammed, I got the motor promptly and it wasn't damaged from shipping

whoa that coolant has a PH of like 40! everyone knows the lower the coolant PH the more power you can make. I heard JDM coolant has a PH of 2!

Looks good to me. The oil from the spark plugs is just the spark plug gasket leaking no big deal those can be replaced. What I would suggest is to take it apart and make sure it is all clean inside. Dirt and a lot of other stuff can make it into the motor when they sit around.

And the VTEC solenoid has ... Wait ... There is no VTEC solenoid. I think I got ripped off

I'm going to be tearing into it Sunday when I get the new engine stand.

What'd the plugs look like when you pulled them out?

I'm going to pull them Sunday along with taking the head off. I'm waiting for my new engine stand to come Sunday and I will be in Daytona Beach until Sunday.

Cool.... pop em out, and pry off the head... take more pix.
I suspect the thing would be fine, if it came out of a running car that was wrecked or something.

I'm happy with the B18b. Besides the burnt coolant and the bad exhaust cam seal. The spark plugs look good except for number three which I can't see due to all the oil on it. I assembled the new engine stand last night. Now I am waiting for the bolts and a new roll of plastic. After I get the engine on the stand I will pull the head. Maybe even before I get it on the stand to save some weight.

don't sweat it. i am assuming you are gonna tear the block down and build it no? if thats the case, most of the seals, rings, and what not are gonna get swapped out anway...so clean it up and have fun....

good luck...

Going to boost the stock pistons/rods depending on what I find after I pull the head. If everything looks good I am going to replace the head gasket with an OEM head gasket and ARP head studs (of course with work to the head). Later on this year I will rebuild the bottom end.
