DaX's D16Z6 turbocharger build - older, but maybe not any wiser

Garbage and pure drivel. Money spent means nothing on how much power you can produce..
Don't come in here with that nonsense. I dumped FAARR less and walked away with WELL over 300. Take that negativity elsewhere. Contribute to the thread kindly and keep your rhetoric to yourself. 8)

I read this and was like huh? Money spent on a project pretty much dictates how much power you can produce but I get what you're saying.

Haters gonna hate. I'm building this for myself. Turbo D16 is what I want. I finished notching the girdle tonight. All the rod bolts clear the girdle with at least 1 mm clearance (if I had to put a number on it) as they rotate through BDC. I think I had the girdle on and off about 5 times during the notching process. The rods clear the cylinders, but I think I'm going to still put a little notch on the cylinders tomorrow for peace of mind. I may be able to put the bottom end together for good next week.

Looking good! If the rods clear the cylinders now, no need to notch there. If it'll make ya feel better, you can. ;-)

Just trying to cultivate a habit of safety with what equipment I've got. She likes the colored lenses..."they make things brighter".
Finished notching tonight and started cleaning the block up.

Looking good! The notches seem shallow compared to what mine were. Yours look cleaner too. Lol!
coming along nicely, sir!

You know, I used to shoot a LOT. But when ammo prices blew up how ever many years ago, I stopped shooting as much, which led to me selling off a lot of my guns, which by then were just safe queens. I've still got about 6 or 8 long guns, but haven't shot them in years. I've thought about taking her out to shoot the 10/22, and probably need to do that when it warms up / dries up. Just about any free weekend we have she's asking for me to take her roller skating though...going to have to put my foot down and tell her we're going shooting instead, lol.

Block is back from CNC Werx. They did a great job packaging it an my pistons for safe travel. Besides the CSS installation, I had them also bore (75.5 mm), deck, hone, and jet-wash. I'm hoping to take it to my local machine shop this week to have a transmission bolt helicoiled and to have the crank journals, rod bores, and main bores measured so I can know which bearings to order.
Yeah, I'm not going to worry about it right now.
Thanks!

How much more clearance does your machine shop suggest adding ??? Remember that increasing main or rod bearing clearance will LOWER oil pressure.

It wasn’t much (I can’t remember how much he said) just some safety room, he said I would lose about 5 psi, but since my car holds 75-80 psi of pressure he said I would be fine. Under high rpm there can be some rod or crank flex and the extra tolerance protects from spinning a bearing. If it requires me getting a higher pressure pump it would be worth it, it’s too much money to invest to not protect it

Got my ring filer and sharpening stone today in the mail. I have to say, the ring filer (Jegs brand) has to be one of the shittiest tools out of the box I've ever bought. I had to file some of the aluminum base so the abrasive wheel would clear it, and the mounting bracket wasn't bent far enough for it to sit straight when bolted to the work bench, so I had to put it in the vise to bend it. I got it "working" though, and hope to start filing rings tomorrow. Hope it works long enough to get the 4 rings done.

That sucks! I hate having to fix tools in order to make them usable.

A happy ending is always welcome! I still haven't figured what gap I wanna go with myself. The machine shop is closed until after new year's, so this down time is killing. Not because the car is down, but because there's spare time to trip over my feet on what to do next. Lol

I like how you say "we", yet the only one doing the work here is the helper. I sure hope she's getting paid well!!
