Default dashpot and fast idle: are they needed?

i'm doing a JRSC install on a B16 CRX, and i'm having clearance issues. can anyone tell me/verify that i dont need the dashpot or the fast idle valve? i'd appreciate an explanation of what they do if possible as well.

i will be ditching the fast idle with my intake manifold that ill be making. the dashpot, is that the little valve thingie that hooks to the throttle body cable wheel?
Id say neither is needed.
the fast idle just helps keep the engine lit during intial startup, so you maybe have to give some gas to help warm the engine up.

yeah after some research i found that the dashpot is mainly for emissions. something about it allows a tad more air in after you let off the throttle. probably to burn remaining fuel or something.

thanks for the replies

sorry to extend your thread,
had to quote straight from the helms since idle control is always an issue..
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
To prevent erratic running when the engine is warming up, it is necessary to raise idle speed. The fast idle valve is controlled by a thermowax plunger. When the engine is cold, coolant surrounding the thermowax contracts the plunger, allowing additional air to be bypassed into the intake manifold so that the engine idles faster. When it reaches operating temp., the valve closes, reducing the amount of air bypassing into the intake manifold.
</TD></TR></TABLE>
Wouldn't we still need the fast idle valve? or should we get rid of it, and let the EACV control it?

The EACV (the thing on the back of the intake manifold) according to helms:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> changes the amount of air bypassing the throttle body, in response to current signal from the ECU in order to maintain proper idle speed.</TD></TR></TABLE>
I think hondata (or anything like it) is capable of modifying the signal.
Do you all keep the EACV?
(92' and up EACV = IACV)

Btw, the one in the front center of your intake mani is the Air Boost Valve ..that I know you can get rid of. It just gives more air when youre cranking the engine during startup.

well i assume its not needed sine the jackson racing manifold isnt outfitted for it. my car seems to run ok without it now. it does idle a little lower at startup, but nothing that i cant put up with.
