Default D16z2 short block in a ej8?

I have a 1996 ej8 d16y8 with greddy kit installed. now i want more power, but this is my daily driver and i'm looking for a spare motor to build. Can i use a old d16z2 block and bore that to 75,5mm with new pistons, rods, bearings and new oil pump and use that with my y8 head?

What problems will i run into?
is there any problem wiring up the elektronics on the d16z2 block.

The block has seen 200 000km.

Why i'm looking into this is because i live in norway and d16 cost alot more here.

Thanx for any reply.

The Z2 is like the obd0 D16A6, so you shouldn't have any issues with the head/block mating up. IIRC you'll definately want it for the A6/Z6 oil pump, since the obd2 oil system is crappy. The only issues will be getting timing covers to fit properly along with the mount. The only other issues is for the 1.5L+vtec combos, due to the shorter deck height.

I forgot about the oil pump sensor - your car should have a crank flucuation sensor right on the outside of the oil pump. That could be a problem if you have the stock ECU working with the blue box/emanage crap.

I found this, it has a good chance of working. Just make sure to look at the post by matic in the 2nd link.

Other than that, everything will bolt up. It will probably have a 2-wire thermoswitch in teh back, but your Y8 head should have that already. The mounts will work fine, only the old mounts are usually shaped differently, so you might have to cut the timing belt COVERS a little.

I could swear I had someone tell me they had a z6 pump on a y8 block, but you'd have to swap the oil pan for that pump, as well as the rear seal possibly. You really want to stay away from that Y8 pump though. Y7/Y8 blocks haven't spun bearings 100x more than older Z6/A6 blocks because of user error, there's a reason for it and its not the block/crank/rods...
