Z6 Block/Y7 Head Questions
Ok, I've been reading that the z6 block is by far the best D-Series block out there. Mainly because of the 2 oil galleys per rod journal, and a slightly more efficient oil pump. I want nothing to do with VTEC period on a boosted motor. Now I know that the y7 block would probably be fine for boosting. But I don't want fine. I want the best I can get, I also know the cast design of the y7 head is the same as the z6 head. So in my mind that is also a plus. I'm also fully building the head and block, I want to break 400whp or bust. That is my goal.
So my question is this... Is the y7 head z6 block the best way to go with a high power boosted non-VTEC D-Series engine? If so what will need to be modified to either the block or the head to get everything to run right? Thanks guys and gals you're all amazing

Have you looked at this thread yet?

All kinds of SOHC engines in various states of build. I don't recall anyone running a Y7 head on a Z6 block.

Oh there is nothing wrong with running VTEC + boost. I just don't want to do it that's my only reason lol I like to keep things simple when it comes to my logic. But thank you for posting that article! Maybe others will chime in on this subject a bit more?

Re: Z6 Block/Y7 Head Questions
I'm asking because I am having difficulty understanding the logic. If you have a skilled tuner it won't make any difference if you're running VTEC or not. And if you've built and maintained the turbo and engine then you shouldn't have any issues with VTEC either.
I don't understand why you just don't tear down whatever you have and rebuild it for boost. Slap the Z6 crank in it.
400+hp?
Here are some search results on what you'll have to do to get it.

Somehow it doesn't seem like you've researched enough.

Re: Z6 Block/Y7 Head Questions
Oh no I'm quiet aware of what it will take to reach that goal. I already have the money set aside, and the reason I'm not doing this yet is because I will be moving to another city between May-June depending on where my gf ends up going to grad school at. But I've been researching for quiet sometime on boosting a D-Series motor. But recently got the idea to use the z6 block with the y7 head. So I'm doing the research on it now to see if it is something I want to do.
The idea behind all of this is not to be different, it's to do what I want to do. Could I buy a complete z6 to build and boost? Sure! Could I tear out my y7 and build and boost? Sure I can no problem at all. But I want to take the best I can get and do what I want to do. There is no reason for you to really, "need" to understand the logic and reasoning behind why I want to mate the z6 block to the y7 head. I'm just looking for the answers to my questions, and if more experienced people have the answers to my questions great, I will be extremely grateful for the help. That's all I'm asking, for and so far you have helped me in the way you can and I thank you.

Re: Z6 Block/Y7 Head Questions
I also did this swap z6 block with a y7 head and a y8 intake manifold. As long as you put quality part un ur bottom end and atleast block guard it and built you head u will easily make 400whp. I run 9psi low boost on the street and 18 psi at the track very reliable and simple to do the swap but good luck finding info on the swap because nobody does it. Very fun to drive I can chill with 5.0 mustangs on wastegate and wave to them
