Default d16y8 turbo

d16y8 in 93 EJ:
ok it comes down too Garrett T28 (comes with the edelbrock kit)
or pice together my setup and get a t3/t4 (i dont wanna spend more that 3,500)
and i want to run 18 psi (1g-gte pistons)
what are the pros and cons of the kit with the t28 or the t3t4 wich will handle 18psi better spool faster... im a comlete turbo n00b so i appologize.
if you have a better opionion on how i should go about b00sting this pice please state so..
-thx yall~~~~

I would get a custom kit with a T3/T4 and get real foreged rods and pistons. Its a lot of money building an engine to half **** it with B16a rods and supra pistons.

Try a search there tooooo many topics about it this.

PS what do you think 18psi equates to? besides a measure of pressure at your inlet manifold. What are your horsepower goals.

I wouldnt bash that setup, turbopanda has used it for over 1 tear of boostinf at 1+ bar on his d16y8......
Its a good affordable option. Built and tuned correctly it will be fine

t3/t4 is a hybrid turbo, half is a t3 and half is a t4...its allso made by garret.

but is there a diffrence. Like dose a t3/t4 spool faster but handle less boost.. or dose a t28 spool faster but handle more boost, or is it the other way around?

A LOT hehe.

t-28 will spool quick and probably support 300whp (not sure on this one), depending on the size t3/t04 u go with u can support 350whp+ with the cost of spoolup time

i see, will increasing the boost on a t28 make it spool later? like running 18 psi
can a t28 evan handle 18psi well? will it be efficient cause im really leaning twords the edlebrock kit.. it says the t28 hits boost around 2500rpm at 7psi would that increase allot more at 18psi? would it hit 18psi full boost harder and faster than the t3/t4?? thanks for the info, im learing allot

yah it would hit 18psi quicker than a t3/t4. but u have to understand... boost is boost. air flow is a different thing. ie at that same boost level... the t3/t4 would be flowing more air than the t-28... that increased airflow translates to more power. but don't generalize that to think big turbo = more air flow = better all the time. it's best to correctly match the compressor to your application. i don't doubt that that t-28 will make close to 300whp on a d16 if the boost is turned up high enough hehe
