I own a 2000 Civic EX that I've had for about a year. Prior to me owning it there has been quite a lot of work done on it. THe engine has only about 50k miles on it and was built with eagle vitara rods and pistons. (i think) I don't consider myself completely ignorant in terms of mechanical work but i definitely jumped into this car without complete knowledge of how all the modifications work. It has a 2.5 ebay turbo kit on it and recently began making a very loud engine knocking sound. I'm assuming the worst and don't have a lot of engine component knowledge aside from a basic understanding. Does anyone have a clear diagnostic of the possibilities of what is wrong and if so is there a good source of information on how to repair it?

I have a pretty well stocked garage so I assume I should be able to complete a lot of the work myself I just want to make sure I do it correctly and without having to trial/error it.

 

What is a 2.5 turbo kit?

 

Honestly I am not sure I will have to get the specs from the person who put it in.

 

Sounds like rod knock. Y8s are notorious for spinning bearings and having oil pump failures

I wouldn't drive it anymore. .. drain the oil and see what kind of debris comes out when you do

 

yea i stopped driving it when I heard the noise. Drained the oil I didn't see a lot of debris, we are thinking a rod knock/broken bearing, might have to crack open the engine.
