Default d16y7 turbo

Is it worth it to turbo the d16y7 in my 98 hatch, the shop I talked to told me he can make close to 300 whp out of my y7 for about 5 grand, fully built with turbo and everything needed. I trust this guy because I have seen what he has done with RX7's and he seems legit. He has a shop here in Vegas and I seen some of his work.
I was thinking of swapping in a b18c1 gsr motor and doing basic upgrades to it or now I have the choice to have a fully built y7 with turbo. I don't want to be the fastest, I just want something pretty quick that I can have fun with and suprise a few people when they see that I have a non vtec sohc turbo.
What are some of the times and power that have been seen with a sohc non vtec turbo? And is it worth it or should I just swap?

D series turbo! You can make well over 300whp with the right parts. I'm hoping for 250-275 whp on my stock jdm d15b with custom turbo set up. You'll have alot more fun with the turbo than the swap and 300hp in a hatch is plenty to get you into the 12s if not lower. I say keep it real, stick with the D series.

I'm running a turbo y7 right now and love every second of it. If you have any questions about my setup feel free to PM me.

EDIT: Worth every penny and every single minute installed when it spools up!

any turbo car involves tunning.

weither or not a sohc non-vtec takes more probably not

LS turbos take just as much time to tune, maybe less cause they dont have vtec, 2 different sections of fuel and ignition maps cause of cam

would the turbo be reliable for daily driving, or should i swap the motor if i want reliability. my car is gonna mainly be used for a daily driver. i want something reliable but i want it to be quick, and something easy to tune.

I am lovin the y7 but i am not to sure about seeing 275hp on a stock block. 250 is going to be about the limit of our toothpick rods,

and people always said that any sohc could not make over 210-220hp.....

The turbo reliability problems come in from driver abuse or lack of maintenance. As long as you change your oil, keep an eye on all of your gauges and make sure you keep your oil level up, you should have no problems. I drive mine almost 65 miles a day to school and back and have had no major problems ever.

5 grand seems pretty steep... You could get an LS swap and a turbo kit for well under that.

or a GSR swap for 3200, and still have 1800 leftover for a turbo kit....

the 5 grand is for everything, all parts, the turbo, installation, and internals, my y7 will not be stock at all, the guy at the shop said if he can't get 300 hp out of it he wouldn't work on it, and i seen some of the work he has done. he has a 12 sec crx with a b16 turbo.
