Default D16y7

How much whp can a stock d16y7 handle safely? I know that a d16z6 and d16y8 and d15b can handle around 230whp with a good tune. I also know that a stock d15b7 can handle around 170-180. Thanks

I believe he will, if he takes it too high. I would say they can handle the same as any other D16 block.

Lol, sorry about that comment - when you're drunk, things like that seem realllllly funny at the time

Anyway, I would look at it this way. The D16y8 makes about 220whp before the rods get unreliable. The D16y7 is the same shortblock as the y8, but doesn't have the vtec head.

So you would have to run higher boost on a y7 to compensate for the lack of vtec. You should be able to make the same 220whp though, because the rods are still the weakest link in the engine.

Heck, why don't you guys just switch over to y8's? The y7 and y8 only differ in the tranny, head, oil pan, and ECU. Switching the head and ECU costs practically nothing.
