D16 Turbo setup
I have a 95 civic which i am about to pull the d15b7 out of in place of a healthier motor. I was really wanting to do a B18 gsr or an ls, but money is pretty tight right now. A friend told me that he was running a d16y7 and a turbo and was putting really nice numbers. My question is anyone running either a d16y7 or a b18 with a turbo and what sort of set up and numbers are you making.

D16Z6 setup is a GREAT Setup for turbo. Many people who have them, LOVE them. You can get some pretty decent #'s from them to. Do some searching around the site.. I know i have read MANY threads about the D-series turbo.

d series turbo is great, really fun i may add, i had a d16y8 with a greddy 15G kit in my car, and it was hella fun.. the one day i had it, then it got stolen... but still its the way to go its cheaper than a b and if you ever blow one up its like 500 bux to replace best idea ever. go for it man

ohh yea, forgot about the cheapness of a motor in the event that you DO overboost.
another good reason to boost the D!

Re: D16 Turbo setup (kKdARIAN)
I might know a guy with a boosted y7. I really do like mine. It was cheap, if I destroy the motor, anoter is cheap, and it makes good power. I run at 8psi daily on all stock internals for over a half a year and it's been great. And I drive more than 80 miles a day back and forth to school.

I have a d16z6 turbo and love it.. Due to other problems, I don't have any times or dyno numbers because I tryed to dyno it but had a blown headgasket and didn't realize it.. and when I went to the track my clutch was slipping and I had a huge hole in my intercooler pipe so I was running like 20lbs of boost but making 5.. hah.. I just brought the car in the shop and am building the motor with a aries/eagle setup for some spring fun.. Brian (turbodcx) has a very nice hatch with a d16z6 turbo setup.. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=467523

the d16y7 is a non vtec motor and if you were to use it you would have to wire it for obd 1 and you would need to get a d16y8 mani cuz the y7 one sucks.
your better off looking for a d16z6 and swapping that in. you can get them as low as 600 dollars in good shape just have to look around.
My friend has the apexi kit on his 98 civic ex and loves it, needs to be tuned tho

wait, stop, and think.
you've got an engine. it runs. go ahead and turbocharge IT and get familiar with boost first on it before upgrading your engine for 3 reasons:
1. if you goof up while learning/tuning with this engine and blow it you won't care as you'll be tossing in the new engine anyway...
2. this way you'll already be ready for the turbo on the new engine...just pull out old one, toss on matching manifold for new engine and be done as everything else will already be on the car...
3. when you ARE ready to toss in the new engine...crank the ******* boost up and have a blast with the oldie until it finally lets go MuHaHaHaHaHa

If thats yur only goal in life then shame on you for getting rid of your d series, shame on you!! You could see that like nothing on the D16. We're figuring im around 250 right now on 10psi (dyno coming soon).....SOHC is where its at

Re: D16 Turbo setup (TravSi)
Yeah ok, i was really just trying to hook up a good motor. I am still deciding on my final setup. I just needed some advice. What motor turbo setup you running, and is it daily driven?

Why not? Some people have made decent power with the greddy kit. I really hate it when people spout off with no facts to back up there comments. Look at my sig.
