Default d16 blown at the dyno >>

well i had a messed up weekend.

long story short.

1st run, just getting a base map to mess with. super rich, crappy timing. i pulled 9psi to 6500 and something blew up. i think it's the radiator, i have not had time to look at it. i let off the gas as soon as smoke was billowing out of the engine. the car did start again and drive off the dyno. so hopefuly it's just a hose or the radiator.

it did my 237whp @ untunned 9psi. so looks like i will be making good numbers at 16psi and 7500rpm, if i can get this pile running again

anyone have a radiator for sale

platinum.

dont see how a radiator blowing would cause a car not to start. might have bigger problems.

no the car did start.

that's why i think it's just the rad. it sounded fine.

i drove 8 hrs to get tunned in PA.

which just made the whole thing worse..

Why don't you look at it? Does the car idle funny or anything? What did the smoke smell like and what color? Are you low on coolant? And I don't see how the Rad. Could blow? Possible I guess but I doubt it. good luck man....

i did not get home till 3 am last night.

i will look at it tonight

i have no coolant left at all. it is for sure all coolant. the car did not idle or run funny.

i think the stock core just blew out. not sure why though. it should have held at that low power level

they only coolant i had left was what was in the overflow tank. which was almost empty before the run.

That sucks man. You didn't notice any area in specific where all the coolant blew out?

Was the "smoke" coming from your motor or out your exhaust from being rich? You're not talking about steam, right? If so and it was coming out the exhaust and not the motor itself I would make sure you didn't drop/crack a sleeve. (any liquid in the cylinders when you pull a plug?) Good Luck, hope it's something simple but that's strange that it doesn't want to start now.

it all looked like it was coming from the engine bay, it happened pretty quick

if i droped a sleeve it would have run like **** afterwards im assuming. i shut it off for a couple min. and then it startd up fine. i backed it out of the dyno with no issues. i going to throw some water in there tonight and see if where it's leaking.

i did not notice any huge hole in the radiator or anything. so im not 100% sure what happened at all.

i hope its not a sleeve. that's not alot of power to bust a sleeve. i would be really disapointed in my build if that was the case.

i guess i will post up later tonight when i find something out.

im replacing the stock radiator either way. i was thinking of a dual core del-sol radiator. there pretty cheap and alot better then the pile of sh*t im running now. for ~300whp i dont think i need a aftermarket one do you ??

there are a bunch of people asking me about my setup , i guess 237 @9psi is alot or something. remember i droped off the throttle at 6500 too.

anyway here is what is done

--------
je 8.5.1 , eagle rods, micropollished crank, port pollished head, 3 angle valve job,

custom log manifold, 3 inch downpipe and exhaust, t3/t4e .48 50 trim, tial 35mm,

550cc, hondata s200, profec b spec II, NGK 7 range plugs

i cant really think of anything else that would be important.

that's y you are making that kind of power . . . . but at the sametime it doesn't make sense because your compression is so damn low 8.5:1 that is wicked low, but nice #'s

when you crack a sleeve it will cause tremendous pressure in the coolant system... let's hope your radiator just busted.

That's a lot of power for 9psi. I made less than you at ~11psi with more compression and a .63 50 trim.

that might be the case. but it's not alot of power for the motor.

that thing should be good for a easy 350 +

if i cracked the sleeve, there would be coolant out the exhaust right. i have it like all over the engine bay.

Detonation or bad tuning can cause a sleeve to crack at any power level. Stock sleeves are good for alot of power, but only with a good tune. I'm not saying that is your situation though, hopefully it is not. Good luck.

it's a garret t3/t4e .48 50 trim

i just did a comp test. 165 across the board. which is weird cause i had 205 before, but i have all kinds of **** unhooked now..

do i need everything hooke dup for the test to be valid. anyway. even at 165 even all the way accross it's not a cracked sleeve. i am doing a leakdown now to make sure.

the stupid radiator looks fine. wtf..

165 psi is about right for 8.5:1 C/R. I don't see how you possibly could've had 205 across the board with that low of compression.

i dont know how i had it that high before either.

o well, at least i did not pop the block.

the radiator looks fine too and all the hoses. wtf.

im starting to think all the fluid shot out the over flow tank. is there anyway this could have happened. what would cause such high pressure.

platinum.
