d-series port and polish job, worth it for 300whp goal???
Well im in the middle of building a sohc motor strickly for boost as a DD and with some track time. I already have the block in progress and not is the time to get the head worked on. I've seen a couple sohc motors recently without a p&p job putting up numbers well over 300whp. I do plan on upgradeing the entire valvetrain.
If my ideal goal is 300whp, should i even bother p&p the head? It is a d16z6 head n block. I've been researchin but most of the stuff comes from b-series motors and all motor setups.
All help appreciated

i heard that if you pp, it would cause you to burn a lot of oil. that is the only reason why i'm not doing it. just get a good valvetrain for the price and get a valve job and you should be good after that.

no, it is not worth it. 300 hp can be had easily on a stock head. upgraded intake manifold, throttle body, valve springs and retainers for a bigger cam is the only thing that might be considered. someone just made 440whp on a stock unported d16 head. save your money for some more performance parts.

Wow, I was told that the stock SOHC heads run out around 400whp.
I'd take the money from the P&P and go with the valvetrain/cam combo.

They do...400whp give or take is all they can do. I can believe 440 - but i bet that was a huge amount of boost to make the power.
You'll be good with a stock head at 300whp.

A port job is always a good investment IMO. You could be at the limit of pump gas making 350 on 19 PSI or be at the limit making 400 on the same boost. Im doing it cause i want to make more power on pump gas. Easy decision for me.
Plus it wouldnt make you burn any more oil. Who the hell told anyone that? It lets the engine breath better thats all. I would have a reputable place do it and flow the head though.
