cylinder flooding with gas
Hi guys,
d16z6, rebuilt engine, new distrib, plugs, wires, belts.
#2 injector is flooding the cylinder, I had replaced injector, harness, ecu. i had just cut the harness and hooked it directy to the ecu. and still its dumping fuel into the cylinder!!??!! i ran out of ideas of what it could be, could it be the fuel injection relay? (but all the other injectors are fine) ill even give someone money to help me fix this one....

ive actually swapped them out with another working set, still the same problem. sigh... how much to auto electricians cost per/hour?

.. also tried that ive cut the red wire from the injector harness and cut the red wire from the ecu (a3 i think it was) and connected those together directly (bypassing the harness all together) still f*cked up. could it be the connector that plugs into the ecu? how often do those go bad?

prob not the ecu. You might have the harness incorrectly grounded, like souble powered. Its a stretch, but I did it once. Same thing. But it fries the injector driver, so the ECU might be worthless.
Are you getting a check engine light?

Re: cylinder flooding with gas (Pelican)
oh yeah,,, i forgot to mention, cel is on for engine misfire (prolly due to the flooding).
is there anything else that would affect the injector not "pulsing" open and closed? if the pgm-fi main relay was broken, would it cause all the injectors to stop working? or just one?

CEL on and is the code actually #2 cylinder misfire or engine misfire. The thing with honda's is that they have to tendency to go super rich to "a" cylinder or "all" cylinders(can't remember which) either way is a fail safe to prevent knock. Are you sure you have teh right kind of injector? take the clip cover off and inspect it for shorts. check the knock sensor. check the o2 sensor. hell check the MAP sensor. The trick is don't look in one specific spot. You have to look at EVERYTHING that has to do with fuel usage or fuel itself. Hell, did you reset the ECU? I know it sounds stupid but I've forgotten to do it. The best thing to do is grab a fluke and start testing. Find out for yourself what it is then when someone else has the problem you can tell them where to look
I used to be an auto electrician and you don't want to know what we charge.

Re: cylinder flooding with gas (dennis)
i have replaced the plugs and wires. now as for the ecu resetting, doesnt it reset when you unplug it then plug it back in? also the injectors themself are good. i havent checked the sensors, but ill do that this weekend.
when i start the car, it sputters, but if i unplug the wiring from injector 2 and let the engine burn the extra fuel in the cylnder, it will run fine for a sec. until all the fuels gone. so when i connect the injector wiring and disconnect, reconnect, discconnect.. etc... it will run fine. ( so basically im just simulating the "pulsing" effect)
what tells the injectors to open and close?
this is the worst problem ever!!!!!

Re: cylinder flooding with gas (Jared)
no resistor box, 94 civic, p28, d16z6 automatic stock injectors. i just had engine rebuilt. also i know the engine has spark in all 4 cylinders, if i plug the #2 injector wiring to cylinder 3, #3 wont work. and when i plug the #3 wiring to cylinder #2, 2 will work and 3 wont. so seemed to be a harness problem, but i replaced a harness (expensive )
