Default Custom or kit?

I have an 04 EP3 (civic si) and I had originally planned on putting together my own kit, but I've been questioning whether I would be able to put a reliable sytem together for around the same price of a kit. I've been looking at kits though and the Greddy seems to be the only one people aren't haveing problems with, but I eventually want more power. Would I able to put a sytem together to get around 300whp for around 3500?

i would think so, i am more a b-series guy. I know k-series parts are more expensive but i'm sure you can do it. Search the forum for people with a turbo k-series and talk to them. The people on this forum are very nice, willing to help out anyone.

you have to look at it this way

kit is just a custom kit that has all the peices there already

if you get a custom kit you get a better deal b/c you yourself are buying the parts then someone buying them (or putting it together for you)

in the long run they are all about the same

but if i had a k-series
i would really check out

i bought a used kit from someone. it was used for around 1000 miles. It was nice because all the shitty parts in the kit had already been upgraded (manifold, tial wg, mbc, hks bov)and all the pipes were already rebent to fit my exact application. i made 300whp stock block 9 psi. the turbos capable of a little over 400 and the intercooler can handle 400 so theres room for improvement. just my experience with a used kit. i picked that kit up for $1800 (modified max rev kit).

i was gonna mention cybernationmotorsports.com but he said 3500 and i belive their kits are 4000. But if you have the money, cybernation is doing some good things with k-series

I did some reading and some people said the cybernation kits weren't very good quality. I am worried if I go with a custom setup I would have a hard time with matching a downpipe with the turbine housing. Would I be able to get any exhaust shop to make me one or would I be better off getting like some of these guys in the sponsor marketplace to fabricate me one. Remember I am in Deleware were shops are limited.

i would call cybernations and just talk to them about their kits and what things they use. try calling around different shops and ask them questions and it could help you get a good idea of what they have done with your engine turbo wise..

thats what i kinda did before i decided to get what i want. i think peicing up your own kit will be cheaper if you have certain hook-ups but you might start spending more because you want "better" products... example: i was going to get like a sc32 from precision, and now i'm going with a gt28rs turbo which is twice the price..

good luck

you could go with the cybernation kit, but take the guardian out of the package, the price could drop.

personally i would go custom kit, because you get all the parts you want, make sure you get the kpro too

I would suggest custom kit. You will have to have some work done by a fabricator. He will be able to make the DP fit the stock exhaust if you want.

You just can't be afraid to dive in and start doing things. That is why greddy and the other companies are in business, b/c people don't wanna be bothered with putting their own kits together.

Kinda like paying for a carwash, obviously you could do it at home, but you pay 3x as much for hte convenience.

Just gotta weigh your priorities I guess.

i suggest a custom kit. i saved money in the long run and i made more power than if i would have boughten a kit i bought some parts new and some parts used. i have a f-series so it could be different with k-series but it should be the same. go with custom!!
