Crower Rods Pre Install Bolt Stretching
Anyone ever done this?
I tried to stretch the bolts per the instructions using their lube and I get no stretching.
Per the instructions, lube the threads and under the head, torque to 45 ft lbs and recheck. No change.
Used a set of calipers and a dial indicator both show less than .001" change after many tries with more or less antiseize (provided).
Supposed to stretch .004-.006". No matter what I do I cant stretch them with 45 ftlbs. It says not to use any more torque than stated so not sure what to do.
Anyone else have experience with this?

Re: Crower Rods Pre Install Bolt Stretching (niedejb)
My Crower rods mentioned nothing of this procedure, in fact, they had very little instructions at all! I called Crower and a few trusted engine builders to double check, they all told me to just torque them to spec.

I double that. I spoke with the Crower reps last week when building my motor and they just said torque to 45 ft/lbs.

You're killin' me on this one, niedejb.
I'm not sure what you are thinking or trying to accomplish by trying to stretch the bolts. It clearly says:
Do not exceed the torque amount shown below to achieve recommended bolt stretch. UNDER IS OK This is th key...UNDER IS OK
In this case, it is better to achieve the clamping value desired (45lbs) without stretching the bolt. If it stretches more than the length stated to get the 45lbs, the bolt is no good. You're bolts are fine as is, just install them and use them.

Re: Crower Rods Pre Install Bolt Stretching (roby)
The instructions imply that the bolts will stretch. None of the 8 moved at all.
Just posting to see if anyone had ever done the procedure and their results.
