Bulit a 95 LS block, a GSR oil pump, the 96ls pump has a fitting for the CFS, the GSR doesnt, what do GSR's use for CFSensor??? - I cant retrofit this sensor to the pump as the 96 pump has a special locating pin for it. Is the knock sensor in the GSR made to detect misfire just like the cfs in the LS motor????????????
The CFS bolts onto the block and reads a timing wheel thing on the crank. It's not on any pre-1996 blocks, GSR or LS. Not sure if you can retrofit it. The sensor doesn't do much. From what I know, it's for start-up. That sensor tells the ECU which cylinder to fire first (kinda let's the ECU know where the crank last stopped at). I have run a '95 GSR motor in a '96 GSR before, and left that sensor off. It does keep the check engine light on, but does nothing affecting performance.
The knock sensor detects knock. It's basically a little microphone. You can tap a hole and fit this onto an LS block, by the oil filter.

tanX, everything I have is 96 up, but now I dont have either knock or CFS, CFS is not just for engine start, it is actually what will trigger your 71 - 74 CEL. I think I may want it still but I have upgraded oiling system where the locating pin for CFS sensor is supposed to be on a 96 LS.
