Default Correct me if i'm wrong?

When talking to a shop about building my bottom end they quoted me at 4-$4500 for pistons, rods and balancing/blueprinting. They said i'll need to b/b the engine so i won't float a valve at 16-17psi(high) up to the stock redline or before?? Correct me if i'm wrong but don't you start floating valves when you are over reving the engine? Is it just me or are these price figures really high. And should i really have to balance out the whole engine for 16psi(high) and 9psi for daily driving? Or is the shop just trying to push me into more money that i really don't need to spend? Also i was told you don't need to drop the crank and re-balance that because its already balanced from honda and there is no need to balance it again.......i'm getting confused here about who is right......can someone help me and explain

its a b18c engine

Balancing the engine has nothing to do with floating the valves. Valve springs, the cam profile, and how hard you spin the motor are going to determine valve float, not if you have the motor balanced or not. Doesn't sound like a very knowledgeable guy, I probably wouldn't take my motor to him.

They are trying to screw you!!! You are already extremely smart for questioning it. Right now i have cp pistons, eagle h-beam rods, arp studs and a newformz block guard and i run 20 psi racing and 16 daily with no probs. i got it all for under 1000...then installed myself. So say that you are paying 1000 for parts......they are charging you for about a week of labor 24 hours a day with like 3 guys working on your car non-stop!!!! ( I know it is an exaggeration...but you get the idea) If you cannot get some friends to do the install and cannot do it youself, call me, I will do it for exactly 1/2 of whatever they quote you (including shipping!!) pm me if interested.

Hey man, I just wanted to let you know about A/V engineering in Charleston, SC. Anthony can build an engine to your needs at a reasonable price. He has built some top notch engines from what I have seen. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

So i'm gonna go pick up my car this week and take it another place, possibly A/v in charleston or to savannah. So should i expect to pay around 2000 for a reliable build up that will last for a year and on. I might have to get it tuned my mase, i hear really good things about him.

Thanks for all the help
