Copper spray or not?
I am reassembling my D16z6 i had really bad over heating anoying issues with it the block was not flat the sleeves were lower then the rest of the block.. So now its all cut flat on a blanchard at the local machine shop and the head was cut flat to took .007 of the bock and .003 of the head.. So should i use copper spray for it with the new y8 oem gasket from honda.. Its flat am im happy finally.. Should i use copper spray or should i stay away from it..

Re: Copper spray or not?
I did a little research on this when my motor was built and I came up with the conclusion that it was not a good idea. Most people that I spoke to said they ran into problems with the headgaskets not holding up after using the copper spray.I couldnt get any rock solid facts on why just that they didnt plan on using it again.I didnt use any and it held up fine until last weekend and its been 3 years and the gasket didnt fail I had to dissasemble the head.

I was going to use copper spray but I got mixed results as well. I just put a little extra Hondabond on the oil sensitive areas and haven't had an issue.

I used it last year, stock engine 32psi on pump gas on my dsm (Just a 58mm) no head lifting.
Its on my new built engine, Felpro permatorque MLS (5 layer) with L19's and copper spray. I hope it holds up!

Same here, well not 15 years but yeah. Never once had an issue, just a little reassurance, I talked to Earl awhile back and he said the same thing, he always used it, couldn't hurt.

I dont use it on the OEM gaskets. I know lots of people who swear by it. I didnt have good luck with it but it may have been another issue as well.

I usually dont put it on on the first go around, then put it on if I need to reuse the headgasket. The residue it leaves on the surface sucks trying to get it off.
Anyone notice that you get little orange particles in the coolant too?
maybe im just not letting it dry long enough, but it works good.

My block was cut flat so it was shiny and the head was cut to.. with a oem honda gasket and i sprayed the copper spray on it.. How hard is it to clean off the copper spray if i was to pull of the head.. Can you use some thing i dont want to damage the surface.. Has any one had issues cleaning it off..
