Coolant temps when it's 20F outside
So this is the first winter I've data logged and monitored engine stats on this car and I'm seeing coolant temps of about 175 ~ 177 while cruising on the highway. Seems low to me. I'd have to run it hard in boost for a while to get it to around 185 and then it'd quickly cool back. I have the stock OEM t-stat in there which I believe was marked 194. Does it sound like my thermostat is stuck partially open? or is this normal when it's around 20F out?
Side note: I was seeing IATs of 26F lol. How bad ***. Even when boosting it hard and making multiple highway pulls IATs only hit a peak of 43F.

Actually, that sounds about right from the ice racing turbo cars I've dealt with up in Alpena, MI. Super cool air means super low coolant temps, even with increased cylinder pressures. Though I'd never run my fun car in the winter unless I'm ready break loose in AWD
I wonder if that's by design or just some sort of bug in the cooling system. If you have a 194 F thermostat is should be able to keep the engine at that temp by simply closing.
I got to thinking about it last night and I've data logged my mustang in the past and it holds temps in the cold. So this morning I drove my truck to work. It's a bone stock 05 Tundra and sure enough it held 190 ~ 192 on the highway this morning. It was 22F out. Get off the highway and in traffic it was sitting at 192 ~ 194. Clearly the thermostat was holding it there on the highway.

Its not a bug. Its the way honda's thermostat works. It tries to regulate the temperature only if it attempts to exceed operating temperature of the thermostat. If its below it, it won't do anything.

Wait what? So if temps are below working temperature the thermostat does not close and restrict coolant flow to allow it to heat up?
No. that's not what I mean. (hard to use words today.. sorry). I mean that if its running below operating temp, it won't open until the last second to allow coolant to pass through the system to exchange hot coolant for cooler water to exchange.
I'm just saying its not a bug, and it runs normally like any another thermostat, but doesn't try to regulate it that well., If it can run way below operating temp of the thermostat it will, that's all.
Actually just forget about me today. I can't type worth a damn, so ignore my last comment.
