Coolant Leak (looks like between the head and block)
97 ls with Greddy turbo
I just had the headgasket replaced back in January. Also had thermostat and radiator hoses replaced, with new radiator and slim fans.
I've definitely been losing coolant and I can see coolant where the head and block meet by the transmission side. But I'm not certain where it's actually coming from. It's not from any of the hoses. No engine check light either.
I can see some liquid being thrown out from the exhaust, but I can't tell if it's fuel or coolant. Any help would be appreciated. Let me know if their is anything else I can tell you guys to help with the diagnosis. Thanks.

Re: Coolant Leak (qfast817)
I took it to the shop where I had the head gasket replaced and the head resurfaced. Their going to take a look at it and get back to me. But the dude was like, it wasn't leaking when we finished doing the head gasket. WTF. I'll hear from them on Monday.

Re: Coolant Leak (96 GSR-T)
that'll be just great. That's the second time this shop is going to be doin a headgasket fix on my car in 3 months. Do you think the should cover it if it is a headgasket problem?

Re: Coolant Leak (AIRIC)
I had ARP headstuds put on the first time they did the headgasket fix. Could it be that they aren't tightened enough or they haven't been tightened properly?
And they should still cover the repairs, right?

Re: Coolant Leak (AIRIC)
That's true. I figured that they should cover because it shouldn't be leaking in the first place if the head gasket was done right. And it's a performance shop, they know turbo's aren't slapped on just for kicks.
Anyone know of any respectable performance shops by sacramento or surrounding areas? (other than motorsports dynamics)

were they brand new ARP studs or used previously? If they are brand new, have they been re-torqued after 1000 miles?

Yeah, they were brand new headstuds, and no they were not retorqued. Do they need to be retorqued every 1000 miles or just the first time around?

If they are new, then i think per APR that they need to be re-torqued after their first heat cycle. So perhaps they have loosened up and is allowing your head to lift slightly?

Turns out there was coolant seeping through the end of one of the hoses that is connected to the head, and it would travel along the seperation that is between the head and the block, so it looked a lot worse than it really was. But I still need to get the headstuds retorqued.
How long does retorqing them usually take?
