Any experiences with the MSD external coils? Do you have to use one with the standard MSD 6A ignition box, or should you?

Car will be pushing 500+.

 

MSD external coils help supply a more powerful spark... supposedly because it can contain more juice than the stock internal coil. i ran one without a MSD amp for sometime.

the amps are a good addition... mainly to smooothen the power band and increase gas mileage.

 

i felt it was worth it due to how shitty stock ones are.

after market ignition with MSD cap cured all my miss problems at 14 psi and up.

 

Anymore thoughts?

 

Ive been thinking about running an external coil along with my hondata also. No MSD box, just the cap and coil. Im experiencing a crazy miss at full boost and think it's the stock coil going out.

 

could be your gap too, ive always wondered if just changing out the coil would be a step up as well, imo the ignition is pretty good but the coil itself sucks, even the spot for it is not good.

 

like i said, replaced coil and etc, and all probs went away

 

I had to get an external coil because I kept on burning up internal coils for some strange reason. Like 2 in one week.
