Default control boost in each gear??

Hey, i was wondering if there was some sort of electronic or even manual boost controller that would let you set you boost levels for each gear. This would really help traction problems for the street.

Doesn't AEM offer gear dependent boost on their EMS?

I think the AVC R is gear dependent. I've heard it's a pita to set up right though.

The Blitz SBC-id boost controller also allows for gear based or speed based i cant remember. I rode in a hatch locally that was around 18lbs in 2nd and 3rd and 4th and 5th was set at 30 lbs. It was adjusted very well and the tires never broke loose. The car was making ~ 550whp at this time.

Innovative also makes a gear dependent boost controller.

As far as management goes AEM has some boost control as well as the Neptune and im sure others as well.

do any of these do rpm dependent control to smooth out a rough boost transition?

boost controller should help with that, or a different wastegate

whats a rough boost transition? as in going from vac to boost? that should be smooth as butter if your car is at all tuned

Well I'll just throw this out there... everytime i toss out one of my DIY toys i get flamed by HT members that only want comercial names. oh well...

i recently went to a pull and save yard and got a 2 way emissions solnoid from a 1st gen DSM. You can wire it up to any 12v source, and put a switch in between. Complete the circuit and the solinoid opens directing boost signal to the stock wastegate spring. flip the switch to "off" position and the solinoid closes, and redirects the boost signal to the preset MBC and then making its way to the wastegate. It works great and its cheap!

I was thinking about using a 3 way solinoid and using 2 MBC, that way you can have 2 fully adjustable preset boost settings.

DIY haters can flame away...

Only two settings though. Try making it better with five, or six settings, then maybe people will listen some more.

Don't feel bad I came here two years ago, and was all about higher compression, when everyone was dropping down to 8-1, and got the **** burned out of my ***, then a year later I came back, and low, and behold, everyone was running nearly 10-1.

I started complaining about no AC on turbo'd cars, not for the sake of having AC blowing on me, but other reasons, now everyone is preaching about AC blowing on them.

I had nothing to do with the 4" DP though, it's a good idea though, so keep it going.

Seems timely, wait I'll get banned again for something stupid like *******.

Preach it brotha! i have an idea i have been working that uses the dual MBC with solinoid but its triggered by a mechanical interface with the shift selector rod. 1st and 2nd = low boost 3-4-5 = high. down shifting clicks it back down. Im just trying to make it small and reliable, not that it hard to compete with the reliability of the EBCs

Bailhatch,
sounds interesting... make sure to let me know how it turns out. i'm only running 10psi so i just modulate the throttle to control wheel spin, but i'm kinda playing with this toy of mine when i run more boost.

Its funny how being a poor college student/car enthusiast forces you to think outside of the box. I'll usually be sitting around bored as **** at home thinking what i could build on a budget of $10.

its all good... i would probably be just as ignorant if i had money to burn.

I've actually made one of those myself as well. I used Honda evap/purge solenoids, they're 3-way. I made one vaccume "circuit" active when the assembly was un-powered-- it went straight to the w/g. The other vaccume "circuit" enguaged when 12v power was added to the solenoids, which re-routed vaccume signal over to a MBC. It actually worked very well. I was think of adding in other few solenoid to have a 3-stage boost setup.....THough I'd like to have it triggered off of speed if I do that.

I've been contemplating brewing myself up a VSS trigger circuit that goes active above a certian set speed. Now that wouldn't account for gear position or VSS speed due to tire spin, but it would be a decent low buck/DIY alternative to a $400+ boost controller.

Would the afr go out of wack if lets say you're tuned at 15psi and you have the psi turned down to 10psi for 1st gear?

if you are tuned to run 15 psi, it will run everything 15 and under with no problems

the aem ems does NOT have gear based boost control, it has, speed based boost control, as well as throttle based, rpm based or a simple high/low switch. the ems does have the ability to calculate the gear, so it wouldnt suprise me if there was gear based boost control in a future software upgrade, but as of now iit cant do that.

I wanna do this with a profec b, except just turn it off for spring pressure, then turn it on for level 1, then click it to elvel 2 for three gear based settings (wire up the 3 clicks to a gear map? 1st gear 6, second 9, and third 11...

i should go post this in uberdata
