Default Competition Clutch twin disk stripping spines out of 1 friction disk????

Happen to anyone else??? Now 3 of us have done it locally (mine after 6000 BEATEN miles so Im not mad... LOL)... Just curious...
Started out of NOWHERE.... just came to a stop, went to take off in 1st and it sounded like a terredactyl on crack screaching and ****... My buddy had told me about a month ago that something like this happened to his too... Another still had it happen to his replacement disks he purchased recently...

1st was a K series,
2nd was a B
Mine's an H

The two other guys had less than 100 miles on theirs... The K series one that **** the bed was brand new, hes making about 320WHP. THe B series car were replacement disks (no problems with the originals).. Lasted a month (Rarely beaten) 450WHP...

And mine had 6K on it, ive broke 7 trannys beaten contantly at 630WHP... LIke I said I ubnderstand why mine might have failed... but would never think the splines would break off of the disk.... I have a Tilton flow control valve with the smallest pill in it too..

Input shaft looks fine.

WTF???

Hope theyll warranty it.

ive heard of this happening on engines with much less power and other clutch companies.... i dont understand why it would happen though.

softer material than the input shaft?

Splines in the disc is a harder metal which is true but keep in mind that every time that you engage it and disengage it is like taking a hammer to a piece of metal.

With no springs something must give, this is common with solid discs.

Lucky it's not the spline.

My ACT solid disc almost gave out of me but I caught it just in the nick of time as it felt a bit sloppy when I depress the clutch so I took the tranny off and sure enough the disc had about 10-15 degrees movement and the edges were all smooth.

I guess that is why they put not for street use.

i think its a problem with those clutches...same thing happened to my buddy, they told him to ship it to them for inspection(possible warranty) but then they just said the disc was warped from inproper assembly...in actuallity the disc was bent because it was jammed onto the trans and we had to pry the $hit out of it to get it off.........

I have this same problem too.. My first was with a Tilton twin disc and it happened less than 1000 miles on it. The clutch closer to the flywheel was jammed on the shaft and the clutch closer to the pressure plate had no teeth on the inside. I had to take off the pressure plate bolts through the hole for the clutch fork and bang it off...

Now I have a Clutchmasters FX600 with less than 1000 miles on it and now its starting to make that same noise and start to engage on its own after I put it in gear.....

Tilton told me I just had to get new discs for $360 even though the ones I had in there were just fine. I only needed the center hub replaced...

So from what I am seeing here.. All 3 major companies Tilton, CC and CM products have the same result..... What happens next?

I talked to Chris at CC this morning and he was very helpfull...

He said they do offer a re-hubbing service for 100 bux, but Im going to opt for a new set of disks... If the disks are .250 thick they are still "good" as per Chris and at that point they can have new centers put in them. 325 for a set is a bit steep (He did only offer retail...bah.....), but my local wholesaler is hookin me up.

As for WHY it happens I wasn't offered a solid explanation, BUT, like I mentioned I got some seriously good abuse out of mine, and it outlasted 6 trannys... LOL...

However if i were to get a new set and have thenm **** the bed in UNDER 1000 like some of you are saying id be pissed.

If I remember correctly the set of disks costs about 220 wholesale.

Ya ive got my tranny hanging off... been prying on it HARD too, wont come off...Put the slave back on the treanny to try and see if i pushed the clutch in if it would pop off... MNo luck. It lets the tranny fall off a bit, but now I KN OW my disk is bent too.... Did you guys just pry the wholy [freak] out of it???

I have new disks on trhe way so i dont give a [freak] about these... But I dont want to [freak] something else up. IM SURE one of the disks is bent though just by how the tranny is trying to pull off, and it was definately from prying the **** out of it since it was sure as hell assembled correctly.

the metal from the tranny is tool steel, and it will molest pretty much any other kind of steel, except for another piece of tool steel.
just thought id throw that in there.
id be pretty upset if i shelled out big bux for a twin disk and that happened. are all the people that are running these clutches, do you guys also have an lsd?

I measured the plates as well... Chris informed me that the allowable range is .200-.250. Min e are at .2395. Both of them..... However I bent one of the disks pulling the tranny that was bound up as hell... Had to put the slave cylinder on the tranny, rotate the crankbolt a couple times to turn the motor over.. have someone push the clutch in and yank the [freak] out of it to get it to break loose past the [freak]ed up disk. THEN take the slave back off and finally drop the terd...

What a pain in the ***...

Unfortunately one of the diks got bent (it appears), so i wont be rehubbing it/them.

SHitty deal, wondering WTF. But, just want it to get back together again. Need a pilot bushing and to pull the flywheel off to take tha ol,d one out and put the new one in.
