ERL sent out a couple of block with sunken sleeves, my friend got one of them so I would check the deck surface too

cometic sucks because they are no better than oem unless you are looking for a thicker headgasket to get the compression ratio down. but then again i would be doing other things to get it down.

Or if you have a big bore D series and have no choice but cometic.

Never ever said they were better BUT they are no worse either! The OEM gaskets DO fit better, over the dowel pins and when installing it on a motor with headstuds, OEM just slides down and all is good

I am just saying people need to stop saying Cometic is crap, they work and work well, you are not gonna gain horsepower from the gasket so.....

How do you know? lol

APC needs to come out with some switchable glow gasket thing. I'd buy it for my daily driver.

So I needed an 85mm bore .040" thick, so how is OEM gonna help me? What other ways can I get a thicker gasket? Or what is the proper way of doing this again?

not trying to argue but if you are able to use a oem gasket then use it if not then use cometic.

edit: arent oem gaskets .037" ? thats not much difference from .040"

Stock gaskets are .029" and yes if I had a choice of OEM VS Cometic I choose OEM FIRST due to fitment is better and more precise BUT again their is still nothing wrong with a Cometic gasket though. As I mentioned lining up with dowel pins and installing with headstuds can be a pita but it works is all . Dude we could go back and forth adn keep going and make this the longest most worthless thread on H-T if we wanted.

All I wa stating is the people bashing Cometic and stating they are junk and will have problems is straight BS

it's been 4 years +. Probably longer.

I can remember calling you guys and it was noted that you were only doing D series. Good to see that has changed although I haven't had a reason to take my cometic out....yet.

We used to have a lot of problems with headgaskets on Chuck's car, when he first started running it. Switched to GE/OEM and no more problems. I don't know enough about head gaskets to know why the oem works better, but from my experience, it definitely does work better.

So Tony what did you end up running on that one customer's car that ordered the GE LS/VTEC kit from me and GE sends the VTEC gasket with it. Didn't you and Art just get a Cometic for him? Is it just Chuck that has had issues with the Cometics? Seriously curious

Gotcha. I put my Cometic on today, again like I said before they do suck trying to get them over the damned dowel pins. You would think they would have bored that out more by now. This one actually fit very well except the dowels was super tight as always . We shall see when we fire her up next week and get some track time soon.

the difference from cometic and oem honda is the cometic uses a galvanized center layer and honda is stainless center layer we all know stainless is stronger, i know many people use cometic gaskets with no problems but we never had any luck with them and do not care for them. as for the vtec kit we sell at least 50 a week all using the vtec gaskets with no problems
