After taking apart a friends motor, i noticed the combustion chamber on the intake side have some rough edges that look similar to this picture i managed to find online:



Correct me if i am wrong, but will this damage to the cylinder head will need aluminium welding. The chamber port shape will need re-cutting and re-profiling and finally redecked? How much exactly does this run at a machine shop? 2 of the chambers will need reworking. Thanks.

Just get the head milled a little and you'll be fine. That isnt bad to run it like that.

Well the problem with ditching the head is that it is not a 'stock' head. Meaning it has been ported, polished, etc.

Art, are you SURE running a head like this with a pourous like area near the intake side is safe? Wouldn't this be asking for trouble considering hot spots could occur in this area? If it was on a motor pushing 8psi I wouldnt be too concerned, but this motor has pushed out 400 to the wheels and will be doing the same if not more in the near future. I'm just trying to get a ballpark figure on how much this costs to fix... hopefully we can just resurface it... but we all know when it comes to building turbo motors nothing goes as planned.

Just resurface it like Art said, or buff it with a wire brush(carefully) to smooth it out some.

We are going to try to smooth it out using a dremel to just flatten out the pourous area at a very low rpm. The only concern is that the rough area has went outside the circumference of the combustion chamber by just a tiny tiny tiny bit...

Looks like it will need to be surfaced slightly after you smooth it out

Looking at that last pic it might be ok. I would take it to a professional to look at it before you attack it with a dremel.
