Default Clutch Masters Flywheel ques...

It looks like I'm going with the Stage 4 Clutch, I was just wondering if it is worth the extra $$ to get one of their aluminum flywheels assuming I can get a pretty good deal on Clutchmasters products? Does anyone know how much lighter their flywheel is compared to the stock ITR flywheel? Is the quality good, any known problems?
Thanks for any info.

CM Flywheel is no good. The bolts will back out on you. Yes I have seen this happen several times on customers cars. If you have a itr flywheel, STICK WITH IT.

Thats why you use loctite on those bolts. I never had a problem with them in my race car. If the CM ones are bad, then fidanza's are bad as well because they are the same thing.

what do you guys mean the bolts back out? I have a CM flywheel, and I don't want anything bad to happen.
Ninesecrx, care to explain how you use locktite or what I should do to prevent the bolts backing out? (im not sure even what bolt backing out is)

They are either talking about the bolts that hold the flywheel to the crank or the pressure plate to the flywheel coming loose. IMO it probably isn't a bad idea to use loctite on both. Who wants to take a tranny back out cause a bolt worked its way loose?

Loctite is a type of adhesive you apply to the threads of a bolt before you thread it in and tighten it. The adhesive helps hold the bolt in place, so that it won't back out accidentally.

Not only do the bolts backout but the flywheels will crack due to stress. I personally think that some of the bolts could be placed in a better location. Some of the bolts are in a back location causing the flywheel to have stress cracks.

I've used both ITR and CM flywheels. The CM is a good quality flywheel and yes it is made by Fidenza (sp?) for Clutchmasters. You have to use blue threadlocker on the flywheel bolts and torque to spec. (The bolts that hold the flywheel to the crankshaft) I also put blue threadlocker on the friction place bolt threads for good measure. The CM flywheel has always held up enough for my n/a and f/i projects.

But I am using an ITR flywheel for my current project. No perticular reason though........
I have yet to see any stress riser failures due to the friction plate bolts at this time. You are pretty much safe with any mild to hot street set-ups. For a all out race engine with a high grip clutch and alot of power I would opt for a one piece Chromoly flywheel.
