Clutch 101 by Rocket
how is clutchmasters' ceramic friction material on the stage 4 clutch when it comes to longevity...im looking into a CM stage 4 because of the holding capacity and pedal feel...so id like to know if youd be able to help me out with how its durability would be for daily driving? i know pedal feel will be close to stock but what bout its impact on a stock flywheel? will it eat it up or will it be ok?...and how is it handling power? im planning to but 375+to the wheels...its for a h23a1 prelude turbo...thanks!

</TD></TR></TABLE>Since most companies are using the stock gray iron castings, welding gives CM the ability to go farther than others do in moving the fulcrum point. But as Rocket mentioned, it requires more travel to release. The farther you move the fulcrum, the mushier the pedal feels, since the spring is stock and the travel is increased. Not only is that true, but the further you move the fulcrum, the shorter the working range of the pressure plate, so you also sacrifice clutch life. **Warning, product plug - Since ACT uses their own ductile iron castings (SFI certified) they can put the fulcrum wherever they want. ** I feel so ashamed.
Great info. Rocket!! I hope you don't mind if I chime in.

Are the dates on this thread correct? If so, Rocket and I have chatted a few times since then. I would love for him to come up to our shop in Lancaster and see what we do here. He knows his stuff, but he is missing a few of the finer points. knowing how much he likes tech, he would really benefit from a tour and tech session.

ACT Man, Im trying to create a Clutch 101 section on my Wesbsite which I plan to fill with as much technical information as I can. Can you help me with adding information other than what I gather from this threrad?

Sure. Are you somewhat local? If not, please email some questions and I will go from there. My email is dstarksen@advancedclutch.com. Do you have a website already that I can look at?

damn, this thread has been revived from the dead..
on a side note, it never surpsises me enough how many knowledgeable, established people in the automotive performance industry we have as members of this site!!

True but this hits my recent topics.
I am glad Clutch 101 has helped so many people. And people still doubt me.

I am not a fan of CM clutches. Take a Action, ACT, and CM apart and you'll agree with me.

I'm in a dilemma at the mo cuz its already cost me $$ the 1st time round and its still not on my car yet as the stock one is back on so at least I can drive it for now. If I get the tech to try what you suggested and its still no good then I'll be wasting more $$$ and still have no clutch.
But if I send it back to you and the Action is OK, shipping will cost me also for nothing??? I just need a second opinion to be absolutely sure that its the install, flywheel or hydraulics thats causing the problem and not the clutch.
If I had the tools and a ramp, I'll do the damn thing myself but I haven't....
Is there anyway that you can tell if the clutch is faulty by just looking at it or anyway that I can test it without installing it on the car?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Please describe your problem.

I thought I gave myself a PhD in clutches but I guess I'll go over to ACT for the final exam.
I'll try to make some time and head over there. Is lunch included?
