Why don't you just make a pipe and extened it downward like everyone else.......always trying to be different !

Why 18"? Can't I offset that number by going with a bigger downpipe... say 9" w/ a 3" exhaust and even closer if I go 4" dp to a 3" exhaust?
i dont think thats a good rule to make up....you dont want to disturb the flow of gases as the exit the turbine. the turbulance will cause a pressure rise and will slow the spooling of the turbo as well as raise the backpressure at the turbine outlet. i wouldnt do it anywhere near the turbine exit even with a 3" downpipe.

i think the best place to practically do it is if you have a 2.5" downpipe is anywhere at or after the bend under the oil pan, preferably near the back of the oil pan where you can flare out to 3" for a 3" exhaust.

What about putting a small engine muffler on it. lawnmower, motor scooter, etc.... It could be stealth and a good alternative for people with smaller DPs. You might even get some pretty cool sounds by changing the pipe length and muffler type (resonator/glasspack, baffles). just an idea for an old thread.....
