Default Chrome compressor housing...

Anyone think that getting the compressor housing chrome dipped will cause any heat retention problems?

I like to polish it, but polished finishes are high maintenance.

Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

it really doesnt matter if it does retain heat becuz as it is it is going to flow what air it has through and intercooler and then through your TB. So really polisihing and chroming is just for looks.

The Chrome plating will retain more heat than just the polished aluminum, but I am not too sure if the difference will be that significant! Do you have a pyrometer? I would be interested in checking out what the differences are on identical setups , one using a polished compressor housing and the other one chrome plated.

i can check with the heat gauge i got that i use for the track. Thermal heat gauge i got chrome-dipped housing and i have a std one.

I really dont think it really would make a difference in performance. But iwll make a difference in underhood heat.

If it'll make a diffference in underhood temps like you say, then it'll for sure make a performance difference. If the chrome increases the temp inside the compressor housing, that temp difference will probably be measurable at the throttle body.

Bare aluminum cant be chromed. The process to chrome aluminum is this: first a layer of a metal, namely copper, is attached to surface of the aluminum and then it is chrome plated.
A chrome plate is not the best surface to expand and contract like a turbo does through heating and cooling. The plating will flake off with time. Before that, however, it will probably turn a blue hue. Ive had my turbo polished for several years. It still looks good. I just hit that biotch every so often with some mothers metal polish. When it gets bad ill take it to a guy who does the polishing on Harley . But dont listen to me.

You can buy some "chrome" high temp paint from Auto Zone and it will look GREAT!!
