Cheaper external Wastegate?
all kinds of wastegates cheaper than tial. alot of people say not to use them though. i personally know lots of people that have used them for years and not had any problems. personally, i wouldn't be afraid to use them. but thats just me.
^^^ some are lucky, some are not. i just threw one out yesterday
holds boost for couple of runs then overshoots after. good thing my boost cut feature works all the time. buy the real ones.

Like the TIAL WG's, you should open it up and make sure that they didn't pinch the diaphragm when they assembled it. I had the same problem with my TIAL 38mm and have seen it on several WG's of that type.

Well, FWIW, I have an XO2Racing 44mm on my car, and while it has been very consistent, it isn't made nearly as well as a TiAL, and I kind of expect the shaft to get hung up in the bushing one of these days. Having said that, a year later it's still working the same as ever. The handy thing about it is that it's one of those adjustable types, so I can adjust my base boost (meaning before the creep starts) quite accurately.
The creep issue brings me to the next issue of the non-TiAL WGs. It seems like the piston in my WG doesn't have much travel, and I wonder if that's why it creeps like it does. It could easily be that isn't the case at all, and it's actually the lowish boost I'm trying to hold for the turbo, or a manifold design with less than optimal wastegate outlet pipe positioning.
Anyway, just trying to add a little to this discussion. Bottom line for me is that if you can afford TiAL, it's the way to go. For $200 more, I could have had one, and I'd have one less thing to ponder. . . . . .
EDIT: The Shodan got his post in while I was typing. The Shodan, could you elaborate a little please?

Sure, though there's not much to elaborate on. Some of the larger used HKS and GReddy wastegates do phenomenally well in case you can't afford the TiAL. The problem is, by the time you find one of these rare units, the OP could have saved enough to get a good 38mm MVS wastegate to use on his setup. This is assuming that the OP hasn't picked up a manifold yet. (Assuming this is for a 38mm or 44mm)
I will say this: The only issue I've EVER had on the older model 2 bolt 38mm wastegates (From TiAL or any other manufacturer) is the fact that on occasion, the 2 bolts back out of the flange over time creating an exhaust leak. The only way I've ever been able to solve it is A) using Safety wire through the bolt or B) tack weld the bolts onto the flange. This is a MINOR issue with the older series, and is dependent upon the manifold used.
Bottom line: If you can spare a few more bucks somewhere, get the TiAL and don't look back.
