Default Cheap bendable charge piping??

want to make charge piping for my setup,
but I want it to be cheap, as it will most likely be temporary. I'm using a small 3rd gen rx7 intercooler,
that I may swap out in the future,
so when I do that I'll want to redo my charge piping with something more permanent.. and ultimately more pimp

But for now, ill probably run 7-8psi MAX
and want some piping that I dont have to worry about welding up, and can just sort of bend in the shape I want.

can you guys recomment where to pick something up?

i've seen people use sort of accordion style metal piping,
non accordion metal piping(although it does have ridges in it so can be bent, just not accordion style ridges, heh).
and also some sort of rubber/silicon radiator style hose.

all of this would be great!
but I dont know where to pick it up.

a junkyard is my last resort, as there arent any near me,
i'm sure I could find one if I tried, but i'm thinking maybe theres something at home depot or somethin.
(also its pretty pimp to tell your friends about all the homedepot stuff in your car, haha).

heh, yeah i've had that link saved for quite some time now.

and did no one even read my post??

I know you can get custom mandrel bends and cut them up and then
weld them togehter or connect them or whatever.
that is not very cheap, and will likely end up in the $50-60 range

and I just want something temporary, as I said,
and bendable... as I said.

The metal acordian stuff is cheezy exhaust repair you get at discount parts places. It comes in a short length and I guess it's air tight, clamping it could be problematic though.

Your best bet if you must go super cheap is to find a junkyard and start pulling saabs and volvos apart. An armfull of piping around here would be about 20 bucks. one or two pipes are free. Why not just get 2 or 3 mandrel bends from summit for under $45 and use some junkard pipes to link them together. Then when you get your new setup you can just use the mandrel bends and weld on more metal. Thats what I did. no regrets and I have nice pipes now for less $ in the long run.

hmm,
ok thanks,
yeah I think I should probably give the junkyards a go,

I WILL do the mandrel bent thing, but that'll probably be on phase2 of my setup,
which would include the nicer piping, bigger fmic, and more boost.
and i'm trying not to even think about it at this point
just want to gather the cheapest stuff I can and get it working.

I think the guy I bought the turbo off got it at a pick'npull,
and hes local, so I might go there and see what I can find!

oh by the way,
does anyone know what that stuff is that you sometimes see used on racecars(drag/road) for their intake system,
usually a shiny bendable metal tube that goes directly from the TB to some outlet out the front of the car.

looks like handy stuff.

first rule of thumb... got you cheap and you go broke... if you want a good compromise then get the jc whitney's stainless steel mandrel bent pipes.

figure out what you'd need and purchase them, line everything up then take them to a radiator shop and have them welded with beads at all the ends that you'd be connecting with couplers.. you could have a straight setup for under $150-$200... you might as well throw down on a fmic of some sort now too.. ebay has them for cheap nowadays... look for small npr's or starion intercoolers... you could have a complete setup for about $300

yeah very good ideas.

i will do that when I have some more cash.

actually I also really want to see what I can accomplish on a broke *** budget.
I want to see 10-20bucks worth of piping working well on my turbo setup,
I got my IC and bov basically for free.. so why not continue the trend??
hehe

You can use radiator hoses and 2 inch pipes/clamps to connect them together ...

i wonder if you could just use the stock turbo dsm setup... hondas have the throttle bodiedson the same side of the car and everything... you could use the same pipes and routing and have the smic right behind the passenger side wheel well.

but like i said... you go cheap and you go broke, it sounds like you arent investing anything in your setup and thats bad... i know you arent going to run much boost but what about more fuel and crap? all i gotta say is you should buy everything you'd need straight up before you even put the stuff on your car. thats just my opnion

yeah no worries,
i'm not going to skimp on important stuff,
I'm going to use bigger injectors and the smc+ for management,
which actualy is kinda skimping.. by going smc instead of safc,
but I dont particularly like the safc, and hondata is just mad bank.
the smc should work just as well anyways.
