Default Catch Can Confusions!

I just thought of something. If your boosting, the manifold will be pressurised and when the PCV valve sees this it will close. Therefor no blow by gases will go into the intake manifold ... and the blow by gases will have nowhere else to go but out from the Valve cover Breather, correct?

If thats the case, no oil vapors will go into the intake manifold during boost. Which makes the catch can useless during boost. But only useful during vacuum?

But then again, I see people connecting the catch cans in different ways. Some connect it inline with the PCV/Intake manifold.

Some connect it inline with the PCV/Turbo inlet.

Some connect it inline with the Valve cover breather/Turbo Inlet.

Whats the correct way?

do not use the pcv valve. run the hose directly to the catch can from the black factory can in the rear of the block. then use a small k&n filter on the second nipple of the catch can. with this setup, any positive pressure in the block will be vented under any driving condition. using the pcv valve and running the line back into the intake manifold is pointless unless you bought the catch can just so you can say you have one.

That's true on what he said about the catchcan. But, why not just ditch the can completely and run a hose from the black box to under the car and let it vent to the ground? Make sure you use sturdy hose as my crack a half clear plastic/rubber hose w/cross white lines already distorted from the sucking pressure, I would suggest rubber fuel hose in the correct size.

uh... i guess that would work. it might get kinda messy with nothing to catch the oil. just make damn sure you have a filter on the line so nothing can find its way into the block.

Remember this though, I have a B20, it doesn't have any PCV on the block! All the crank case vapors go up through the oil passageways up the head. The PCV valve on my car is located on the Valve cover, not on the block like the GSR/Si/Type R!

ok... if you remove the pcv valve is there anything you could attach the hose to for the catch can?

No, just like H22A motors, there is no black box behind the motor. My boy's 22 civic had a problem like that, his pcv valve on the valvecover kept on blowing out of it and it's NA so.... He took the valve out and let the oil spray haha.
