just adjusted valves on my built single cam. I did the adjustment in the right order 1-3-4-2. adjusted intake .007 and exhaust to .009. I have adjusted valves before, but I never used thread lock so I finish everything is put back together. I go outside to start it and it will turn over but it just is constantly turning over. very confused

I know I adjusted them right. and when I turn the car over by cranking it with a ratchet I can hear compression......

Did you leave the ground wire on the head disconnected?

ok so turns out I messed up in one way or another and had to re do the valves. So I get it started and now my timing belt is whining like crazy. a higher pitch like rubber on metal noise or something...... any ideas?

did you touch the tension on the belt usualy i would say water pump but considering all you touched was the valves i would say the clearing on a intake or exhuast valve is way to close maby you mistakedly did a cyclinder in the wrong stroke aka tdc power ,,,

no I redid the valves, I went over all of them 4 times lol trust me they are good now. intake is between .007 and .009 exhaust is between .009 and .011. now the belt is just whining alot..... motor sounds quite and idles well(havent taken it for a test drive yet because of the belt)

Maybe you pinched the timing belt cover and that is rubbing against the timing belt? Could be another one of your belts... Do you have an adjustable cam gear (a bolt might be pushing out)? Ummm, you dropped something into the timing belt cover. Thats all I got for now, I'm sure you will figure it out.

ima say its something that fell into the timing belt area.Like a VC nut or something

yes I do, and it adjusted itself when it was whining(at idle it retarded itself 10 degrees and immediately shut off). I thought I dropped a valve for a moment. Readjusted it to 0 degrees, plugs fouled out, need to get new ones. I am still thinking the whine is going to be there once i get new plugs, we will see i guess.

I retightened the camgear alot, its weird because I have been running my new motor all summer and fall and its like **** just breaks in the winter time unless you have a stock car.

could the belt have jumped a tooth? would that cause it to whine?
