Reusing a headgasket is like changing your oil but putting whatever you drain out back into the motor. It flat out stupid to do...end of story. A big to who ever is dumb enough to reuse headgaskets.

Yea... just turn it inside out.
Don't re-use the HG... especially on a boosted application.

No its a headgasket.... not a spacer... all it is, is a thick HEADGASKET
to the OP just go get a factory headgasket.... all the one your friend has is lower the compression.... basically a band-aid for boost... just get a new one and get it tuned right an you wont have to worry about it

Re: can you reuse a headgasket? (kidsafe yee)
well depends I seen a headgasket that u can reeuse the middle part wich is a different material , buy a new headgasket and split it apart and use the center pice of ur old headgasket
see the thing with oem headgasket is when u tight it down the head it will make the head gasket not usable when u remove ur head

Re: can you reuse a headgasket? (super-hatch)
Honda's are running OEM factory timing maps or 87 octane, so there's little reason to go below 9:1. The only reason would be for 400+ whp, and at that point, you don't want to be reusing headgaskets.
Copper gaskets are sometimes said to be reusable. MLS headgaskets have a special floro-polymer on them (the black stuff) that rips apart when you remove it. The ribbing on the stainless will still help seal, but not all that much. I got to ~11psi (in this case, ~220whp) before my reused HG would leak. I got the engine for almost nothing, so I didn't feel like putting anything into it. Anyways, OEM MLS gaskets work great and aren't all that expensive - $23.84 when you buy it from a certain dealership online.

my theory is---
if the headgasket new and tourqed once and the motor has NEVER beeen started up....i think its fine to re-use...BUT i have never tried it....

nope wrong
once u torque down the cylinder head the headgasket will be crush and u cant reeuse it anymore

Personally I like using new gaskets, I have reused a gasket a couple times. Depending on the situation - If the gasket was from a motor that overheated .. I'd toss it. If you feel the gasket is in decent shape, clean it up with some brake cleaner and spray a few coats of copper spray on it .. and you should be good to go. But nothing beats a brand new gasket.
