Default Can gas go bad after 4 months?

My integra has been sitting in the garage with a half tank of gas left in it for 4 months now, due to my ems being fixed. Well, I got my computer back the other day, started it up, and it idles around 200rpm. Its a really rough idle, and at one point, it finally just died on me. Although, it will start up again just fine. It just idles really low. I can't take it out on the streets to drive it around, because of all the salt and sand on the roads for winter.

So my question is, is it possible that the gasoline in it went bad? Is there anything I can possibly add to help the gas?

yes change the gas but its very likely the ems isnt setup right for your car, even if you're using a previously good tune. that was 4 months ago so the weather was different or something.

Nope. Gas doesn't "go bad" that fast.

It could have condensation in the tank though, use some gas anti-freeze stuff.

Well it wasn't tuned perfect anyways even before it died on me. It still runs really rich with a lot of carbon forming on the ground by the exhaust. I was planning on retuning it in spring when i drive it again.

I was originally going to throw some octane booster in there, but you say I should put that gas anti freeze in instead? When it died back in September, the temp was about 70 degrees. Now its about 20 degrees.

No it cannot. I personally have had a car sit for 9 months and it ran 100% fine with the same tank of gas.

Same here... Had my TurboSI sitting for 9 months with 92 octane and drove it with no problems. Maybe its your base in the ems making your car idle funny? Happen to me with my Hondata!

just replace the gas...

if thats not your problem then give it fresh 92 octane and go from there...

gas does go bad over time. Just because someones' car started after 9 months of sitting doesnt mean gas is good forever. That's most likely your problem. IMO dont bother pouring **** into your gastank.

What is most likely his problem is his EMS is not setup for his car yet. You can’t expect a good idle in that situation. Fix the definite problems first then go after the maybes.

Even a base map on my AEM EMS on my GSR will not idle as good as stock.

Well, when I was speaking with the tech from AEM regarding the EMS, he told me that all of my computers memory will still be in the computer after the E-prom chip was reprogrammed. But like I said, it ran rich before the computer ever died in the first place. But I never had this idle occuring before it died.

I bought some Fuel Heet, poured it in, and it still runs rough. I think I'm going to change out the fuel tomorrow, and put in some of Wisconsin's finest 93 octane.

Exactly. You possibly may have sucked a lot of humid air into your tank due to heat cycling, and then the moisture condensed into the bottom of the tank where it is periodicly sucked into the fuel line causing your problems.
You may also want to check for vacuum leaks (i.e. holes in your intake outside of the MAF sensor path), since your idle is messed up.

Does carbon forming on the ground mean anythign besides that you're not running a cat?

$1 says its the ems / tune and the gas is ok but it doesnt hurt to change it.

Again, I'm going to change out the gasoline tomorrow, throw in some new stuff, and go from there. If that doesn't help, then I guess I'll have to wait until Spring when I can take it to a dyno to have it tuned some more.

One more thing, what if I adjusted my throttle?

I dunno, I figured that was from running so rich. But I guess not.
