Does gas go bad??
Well i just heard gas goes bad after a long time of just sitting there. I have a full tank in my car, and my car has been sittin in front of my house for about 4-5 months now. I didnt know gas could go bad, and when my motor went i had a full tank. What can i do?? like i was told like stuff from the gas floats down to the bottom of the tank, is there a way i can clean that up? like if i pour something in it?? and is there a way to cipher(sp?) out the gas with like a mahine or sumthin? how do i cipher gas??
You are supposed to add fuel stabilizer to your gas tank if you know it will be sitting for a long time. Im not sure exactly what happens if it sits for too long, something like it gels up?
Oh and its siphon gas. If you want to siphon your gas, you just stick a rubber hose in the tank, suck just enough to get flow started (you don't want to swallow gas) and make sure the other end is in a bucket or something. Also, you could just use the drain bolt on your gas tank and drain it that way.

One more thing, you may want to find out first how long it takes for gas to go bad on you. Im not sure, so maybe someone else could let you know if its no good after 4-5 months of sitting.
there is a drain plug on the gas tank...but if it's a full tank, that's going to be quite a bit of gas coming out of there...
4-5 mo should be fine, really. but you should take it easy on the car just in case (are you breaking in a motor anyways?)
as soon as you have used up a couple gallons, go top off the tank with some good gas, and keep doing that..

Gas that sits too long will start to turn to varnish. Old gas plugs jets and damages floats, etc unless treated with Stabil or someother material. How quickly this happens will depend on the quality of the gas and the environment it sits in.
If you put some stabil in the tank now, you will most likely save the gas in the tank but the gas in the lines and injectors cannot be treated since you must run the engine after treating the gas to get the stabil into the entire fuel system. If quality gas sits for less than a year, you will probably be fine or you can drain the system.
Hope this helps

so you guys think i will be fine if i just put some stabilizer in my gas tank asap, then i wont have to worry about it as much?? i only use shell or chevron gas. So thats whats most likely in the car.

Ciphering is easy.. I'd just do that. Don't waste money..
Put a hose into the tank and suck on the hose with your thumb on the tip of the hose in your mouth, then hold the hose DOWN below the tank area and it will pull the gasoline out into a bucket or something. It's easy. Might want to use a clear hose though, so you can see the gas coming towards your mouth.

Hey.. that's not a word I use very often.. but hahahahhaa, I guess I didn't even sound it out when I spelled that one. I'm way off..
Why is your car sitting for 5months?
i dont have a big enough gas container...so ill just buy that stablizing stuff.
If the tank is full and it has been less than a year it should be just fine. A full tank is better than one nearly empty. The reason is condensation. If the tank is full or nearly so then there is less air and with that less water vapor to condense on the inside of the tank with temperature changes. The Stabil is meant for small engines with small fuel tanks. It won't hurt but will do little over the short haul. How soon do you plan to ressurect the car?
im trying to get the car up and running by next month. So it would probably be sittin for about 6months total after i get the car running. So do you guys think i should use that stabil? or should i just pass? cause i really dont feel draining out all the gas, plus i dont have enough gas containers for it.
i had about the same problem, the engine blew and i had just filled the tank that night. the car sat for 6 months. After i got the new engine in it, It started fine but i could tell the gas wasnt that great. I ended up puting in some gas treatment, which seemed to help. As soon as i could i refilled that tank. After i had gone threw 2 full tanks i also changed my plugs out and i could tell a difference
