I don't think they're anymore resistant to being blown off b/c of internal pressure. That's more dependent on the fixturing design (beaded or unbeaded, type of clamp, and additional coupler support).
They can give more than the regular straight couplers when given odd angles. They're like flex pipes for your intake.
You need to engineer in some give into everything connected to the engine from the body of the car or it'll rip it away eventually when the engine torques.
