Calling all you alcoholics... need E85 help!
hey there,
i am in the process of getting parts together to boost my S, and i have always wanted to run e85, but was never really an option because we never had any local stations that sell it. Well lately a few stations around here now stock it and thats what i would like to run, i mean its pump race gas, why not right? i am planning on using a walbro intank pump, and bosch (injectordynamics) 1000cc injectors and shooting for 450-475ish whp on a gt3076 and equal length topmount manifold. with that being said, is a upgraded fuel pressure regulator needed, or will the oem ap1 reg. be ok. do i have to upgrade the fuel rail or fuel lines? any insight from the people that have done it would be great!
thanks for your time
Jeremy

Run what you got, I would get a regulator though to bump up the pressure some, your goals will be right on the upper edge of what that single 255 can support.
so oem lines and rail will be okay? i can use the AEM fuel pressure regulator that bolts to the rail huh? i am not looking for much more power than that anyway, its a DD, just looking for a fun street car

tony palo PMed me saying for the s2k, nothing more is needed other than the 1000cc injectors and a walbro... no need to upgrade lines or regulator, just fill the tank with E85 and go.....
I've been running strictly E85 for 18 months daily driven. Besides the difficulty starting when cold out, I have nothing but good things to say about it. ~320 whp here with Walbro 255 and stock lines, rail, and regulator.
He said a single walbro will do 450-475 on E85? If so, I need to get cracking on my E85 tune!
Stock fuel rail and lines will work....as will the FPR. A single Walbro will get you to your goals and the injectors should hold out. When figuring out what size injectors you need for your goals, you simply use the equation below to get an idea...
1000cc (per inj) x 4inj = 4000cc total
4000cc / 6cc (per whp) = 666.67whp on pump gas
Since E85 needs roughly 30% more fuel, you add the conversion factor of 1.3 to the 6cc per whp OR do it after the fact since order of operations in multiplication and division dont care.
666.67whp / 1.3 = 512.8whp on E85

or you can put an 044 inline and really have some fun

cause in az our e85 is cheaper than regular plus the higher octane (105)and it burns cooler allowing more timing. plus it's better for the enviorment emissions wise and it's a replenishable fuel source made from corn. that's why i run it, and because i have 12:1 cr motor on a 200hp shot.

In a perfect world with the BSFC of an NA car at 100% maybe. There's a lot to consider besides a simple formula, some in favor of E85, some not.
The fact people have data on the walbro/1000cc combo speaks much louder. Dual pumps would obviously raise that higher, but IDK if many people have found the max flow rate of stock lines. Dual pump setups generally have custom lines, filters, etc.
